This book presents an anatomical overview of the changing form and structure of the human body. Although biomechanical embryology can be traced back to the 19th century, up until recently the most commonly accepted framework for the study of human ontogeny (development of the individual) was molecular biology, which all too frequently relied on findings from animal experiments that remained untested for humans. German embryologist and anatomist Erich Blechschmidt's research concentrates on the evidence presented by the human embryo itself. He offers a new approach to the study of early human growth as a way to shed light on the development of body build, instincts, gestures, language, mathematics, tools, and dress.

In his writings Blechschmidt consistently accessed and described the subject of human embryology from the viewpoint of biodynamic metabolic fields and focuses his attention on the question: How does human form arise? Blechschmidt wrote and published exclusively in German. It was mostly through a German/English bi-lingual volume published by Karger ("The Stages of Human Development Before Birth", 1960) and an exceptional cooperation with his co-author R. F. Gasser ("Biokinetics and Biodynamics of Human Differentiation", 1978), that his work became partly available to an international English speaking audience. "The Beginnings of Human Life" (1977) was written primarily for the general public, but is no longer in print. The publication of Brian Freeman's translation of "The Ontogenetic Basis of Human Anatomy" (2004), contributed to a growing interest in Blechschmidt's ideas. Slowly osteopaths, Structural Integrators, cranial practitioners and other therapists began to appreciate his work. The books mentioned above offer both a general and comprehensive access to the morphological cosmos described by Blechschmidt but, unfortunately, they are only partly available at the moment. However, there are a number of unnoticed scientific articles already translated into English that offer a more detailed and deeper, specific insight into this elaborate universe of shape and form. The book you have here is a compilation of a number of those individual articles.

Das vorliegende Heft in der Sammlung Verfahrens- und Messkunde soll einen Uberblick uber die gebrauchlichen Messmethoden zur Be stimmung von Kapazitaten, dielektrischen Verlusten und Dielektrizitats konstanten geben. In neuerer Zeit sind bereits verschiedene Werke er schienen, in denen auch uber Kondensatoren und ihre Messung berichtet wird. Wenn ihnen dieser Band hinzugefugt wird, so scheint mir das seine Berechtigung zu haben, da hier ganz besonderer Wert auf experimentelle Einzelheiten gelegt wurde. Dies kann besonders den Physikern, In genieuren und Technikern von Nutzen sein, die noch nicht Spezialisten auf diesem Arbeitsgebiet sind. Sie werden nach der richtigen Auswahl des geeigneten Verfahrens die zahlreichen Fehlerquellen leichter ver meiden und in der Lage sein, unter Benutzung der bereits anderweitig gewonnenen Erfahrungen wirkliche Prazisionsmessungen auszufuhren. Bei der Darstellung ist insofern eine Auslese getroffen, als die eingehende Beschreibung solcher Schaltungen unterblieben ist, die nur eine Ent wicklungsstufe zu vollkommeneren Anordnungen bilden. Die zur Planung und Auswertung von Messungen notwendigen theoretischen Hilfsmittel sind in einem besonderen Teil der eigentlichen Verfahrenskunde vorangestellt. Es ist dabei bewusst auf eine streng mathematische Ableitung der Beziehungen verzichtet worden, sie hatte einen zu grossen Umfang dieses Heftes bedingt, kann in speziellen Werken nachgelesen werden und wurde auch dem messenden Ingenieur keinen besonderen Vorteil bieten. Wohl ist aber versucht worden, in knapper Darstellung alles das zu bringen, was zum allgemeinen Verstandnis und zur Berechnung von Wechselstromschaltungen als Rustzeug notwendig ist."
