Following 'Lawrence of Arabia' (1962), director David Lean continued his epic phase with this adaptation of Boris Pasternak's novel. During World War One, Yuri Zhivago (Omar Sharif) studies to become a doctor in Moscow. He marries his childhood sweetheart Tonya (Geraldine Chaplin), but is attracted to dressmaker's daughter Lara (Julie Christie), herself engaged to young revolutionary Pasha (Tom Courtenay). Lara is also conducting an affair with government official Komarovsky (Rod Steiger). Yuri and Lara's paths cross again in the aftermath of the Bolshevik revolution, and the two begin a passionate affair.
Every episode from Series 1-4 of the 1970s LWT sitcom starring John Alderton as Bernard Hedges, put-upon teacher of the wayward class 5C at Fenn Street School. Hedges' lot is unenviable - nosey, jobsworth caretaker Norman Potter (Derrick Guyler) frustrates his every move with rules and regulations, student Maureen Bullock (Liz Gebhart) nurses a huge crush on him and the class's usual suspects, led by wide-boy Eric Duffy, (Peter Cleal) run him ragged. Also includes the 1971 spin-off feature film, which centres on a chaotic trip to the country for the unruly class of 5C, who taunt a rival school, visit a pub and start huge food fights.
A children's classic double bill. An adaptation of E. Nesbit's children's classic, 'The Railway Children' follows the fortunes of a group of Edwardian children whose father is wrongly jailed for treason. Exiled with their mother to a life of genteel poverty on the Yorkshire Moors, they are soon drawn to the railway at the bottom of the garden, and all kinds of adventures. 'Swallows and Amazons' is a classic children's adventure yarn based on the Arthur Ransome book. The story recounts the adventures of a group of children who call themselves the Swallows, after their boat, as they holiday in the Lake District during the 1920s. There, they meet two piratical sisters, known as the Amazons, who have already claimed the waters for themselves.
