Diese 7. Auflage der VDI-Wasserdampftafeln, fruher Ausgabe A Ei] genannt, stimmt inhaltlich mit der gleichzeitig unter dem Titel "Properties of Water and Steam in International Units" erscheinenden internationalen Tafel uberein, welche an die Stelle der 6. Auflage, Ausgabe B, tritt. Sie unterscheidet sich von der internationalen Tafel 2 2 durch die Verwendung der Einheiten Kilokalorie (kcal) und technische Atmosphare (1 at = 1 kp/cm = 1 kgf/cm). Gegenuber der 6. Auflage ist sie im Druckbereich bis 1000 at erweitert und durch eine Tafel mit verfeinerter Tem- peraturstufung in der Nahe des kritischen Punktes erganzt. Ferner wurden Prandtl-Zahl, Oberflachenspannung und Isentropenexponent aufgenommen. Die Tafeln der Eigenschaften des Wasserdampfes sind aus international vereinbarten Gleichungen berechnet. Leichte Glattungen oder Interpolationen sind nur in kleinen Bereichen bei der spezifischen Warmekapazitat, der dynamischen Viskositat und der vVarmeleitfahigkeit vorgenommen worden. Gleichungen und Tabellen sind ein wichtiges Hilfsmittel fur die Industrie aller Lander. Bei der Verwendung digitaler Rechenautomaten sind Gleichungen notwendig, da Tabellen zu grossen Speicherplatz erfordern.

Von den verschiedenen physikalischen Eigenschaften fester, flussiger und gasfoermiger Medien interessieren fur warmetechnische Berechnungen beson- iers das Warmeleitvermoegen A, die Viskositat und die spezifische Warme c . Diese Stoffwerte werden u. a. fur die Aufstellung und Benutzung p von thermischen Zustandsdiagrammen benoetigt, mit denen die Berechnung thermodynamischer Prozesse wesentlich erleichtert wird. Sie dienen ferner als Berechnungsunterlagen fur die Loesung zahlreicher verfahrenstechni- scher Warmeubergangsprobleme. Obwohl fur diese Zwecke ein umfangreiches Zahlenmaterial zur Verfugung steht, finden sich in den einschlagigerr technischen Tabellenwerken oft nur sehr luckenhafte Angaben, wenn Daten fur hoehere Drucke und Temperaturen benoetigt werden. UEberall dort, wo aus den bereits vorliegenden Zahlenan aben die Gesetz- ssigkeit fur die Veranderung der Stoffwerte in Abhangigkeit von Druck und Temperatur graphisch oder numerisch ermittelt werden kann, ist es moeglich, die fehlenden Werte durch Interpolation oder Extrapolation zu erhalten. Fur Stoffe, von denen keine Daten bekannt sind - zum Beispiel fur neue synthetische Produkte - lassen sich nach gewissen Korrespondenz- prinzipien Angaben aus denen verwandter Stoffe herleiten. Diese Methoden liefern in fast allen Fallen nur Anhaltswerte, die zwar fur orientierende Abschatzungen sehr wertvoll sein koennen, fur sichere und genaue Berech- nungen aber unzulanglich sind. Werden genauere Werte verlangt, dann ist man meistens auf eine experimentelle Bestimmung der gewunschten Daten angewiesen. Aus diesem Grunde wurde im Forschungsinstitut Verfahrenstechnik ein groesseres Forschungsprogramm aufgestellt, dessen Ziel die Bereitstellung leistungsfahiger und praziser Messapparaturen zur Ermittlung der obenge- nannten Stoffwerte ist.
