The areas of personal genomics and citizen science draw on - and
bring together - different cultures of producing and managing
knowledge and meaning. They also cross local and global boundaries,
are subjects and objects of transformation and mobility of research
practices, evaluation and multi-stakeholder groups. Thirdly, they
draw on logics of 'convergence': new links between, and new kinds
of, stakeholders, spaces, knowledge, practices, challenges and
opportunities. This themed collection of essays from nationally and
internationally leading scholars and commentators advances and
widens current debates in Science and Technology Studies and in
Science Policy concerning 'converging technologies' by
complementing the customary focus on technical aspirations for
convergence with the analysis of the practices and logics of
scientific, social and cultural knowledge production that
constitute contemporary technoscience. In case studies from across
the globe, contributors discuss the ways in which science and
social order are linked in areas such as direct-to consumer genetic
testing and do-it-yourself biotechnologies. Organised into thematic
sections, 'Knowing New Biotechnologies' explores: * ways of
understanding the dynamics and logics of convergences in emergent
biotechnologies * governance and regulatory issues around
technoscientific convergences * democratic aspects of converging

El presente libro es una compilacion de trabajos presentados en el
marco de la catedra "Opinion Publica y Estudios Electorales" de la
Licenciatura en Ciencia Politica de la Universidad Nacional de
Villa Maria (Cordoba-Argentina), en el ciclo lectivo del ano 2012.
Esta compilacion esta dividida en dos partes que intentan reflejar,
en un primer momento, las discusiones actuales en torno a la Ley de
Servicios Audiovisuales argentina y por otro lado, diversos
analisis de campanas electorales argentinas y del resto de
Latinoamerica. Podran encontrar en este libro las producciones de
los siguientes estudiantes: Carina Lacey, Marianela Zan, Giuliano
Sangiorgio, Pedro Sorbera, Emanuel Barrera Calderon, Carolina
Fissore y Maria Corina Armenta Escobar.
En las celulas cancerosas la ejecucion del programa de muerte
celular por apoptosis falla, lo que resulta en la vida celular
indefinida y en el crecimiento celular incontrolable que
caracteriza al cancer. Por tanto, para lograr una mayor comprension
de la biologia del cancer, es indispensable identificar los
componentes moleculares que regulan el programa apoptotico. Las
calpainas constituyen una familia conservada de cisteina proteasas
que efectuan el corte regulado de muchos sustratos especificos.
Estudios recientes permiten proponer que las calpainas desempenan
funciones importantes tanto en la ejecucion como en la modulacion
de la muerte celular por apoptosis y esto las situa como una
prometedora estrategia contra el cancer. En este estudio se examino
si la actividad de las calpainas sufre algun cambio durante la
apoptosis inducida por IMMUNEPOTENT CRP en celulas de cancer
cervicouterino humano HeLa."
El IMMUNEPOTENT CRP es un producto elaborado y distribuido por el
Laboratorio de Inmunologia y Virologia de la Facultad de Ciencias
Biologicas de la Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Es un
tratamiento prometedor contra el cancer ya que se ha demostrado su
citotoxicidad frente a diversas lineas tumorales y que causa
apoptosis en celulas de melanoma y de cancer de mama. En el
presente trabajo se determino el efecto citotoxico del IMMUNEPOTENT
CRP y de sus fracciones sobre celulas HeLa y uno de los mecanismos
mediante el cual ejerce dicho efecto. Para ello se utilizaron dos
metodos para separar proteinas y una tecnica de separacion en una
fraccion proteica y otra no proteica. Posteriormente, se analizo el
efecto de las fracciones obtenidas del IMMUNEPOTENT CRP sobre la
actividad de una deshidrogenasa mitocondrial, indispensable para la
viabilidad celular, en las celulas HeLa. Finalmente, para
profundizar en el mecanismo de citotoxicidad causado por este
producto, se trataron las celulas, se observo su morfologia, y se
realizaron estudios bioquimicos de la actividad de las principales
caspasas, cistein proteasas, ejecutoras de la muerte celular por
apoptosis."
