Writer/director Guy Ritchie continues in mockney gangster vein with
this follow-up to his 1998 hit 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking
Barrels'. In London, en route to deliver a stolen diamond to his
employer Avi (Dennis Farina), thief Franky Four Fingers (Benicio
Del Toro) is ambushed by Russian mobster Boris the Blade (Rade
Sherbedgia). At the same time, boxing promoters Turkish (Jason
Statham) and Tommy (Stephen Graham) enter Irish gypsy fighter
Mickey (Brad Pitt) in a fight run by local kingpin Brick Top (Alan
Ford). Instead of throwing the fight as arranged, Mickey earns
Brick Top's enmity by beating his opponent fair and square.
Meanwhile, Avi travels to London and hires Bullet Tooth Tony
(Vinnie Jones) to track down Franky and the diamond - which Brick
Top has now found out about and decided to appropriate from Boris!

Keep Smiling is a celebration of the most universal symbol of hope,
joy and positivity - a smile! Created by the bestselling team
behind Coming to England: the inspirational Dame Floella Benjamin,
and award-winning illustrator Diane Ewen. Vina's Mum has always
told her that a smile is the best gift you can give someone. And as
Vina loves smiling more than anything else, she gives the gift of
her smile to anyone who needs it. But on her first visit to her new
school, Vina's own smile gets a bit . . . lost. She can't find it
under the slide, or on the climbing frame. Then, a smile appears,
in the most unexpected place!
Now the subject of a major new film starring Colin Firth as Ewen
Montagu in Operation Mincemeat. In the early hours of 30 April
1943, a corpse wearing the uniform of an officer in the Royal
Marines was slipped into the waters off the south-west coast of
Spain. With it was a briefcase, in which were papers detailing an
imminent Allied invasion of Greece. As the British had anticipated,
the supposedly neutral government of Fascist Spain turned the
papers over to the Nazi High Command, who swallowed the story
whole. It was perhaps the most decisive bluff of all time, for the
Allies had no such plan: the purpose of ‘Operation Mincemeat’
was to blind the German High Command to their true objective – an
attack on Southern Europe through Sicily. Though officially
shrouded in secrecy, the operation soon became legendary (in part
owing to Churchill’s habit of telling the story at dinner). Ewen
Montagu was the operation’s mastermind, and in his celebrated
post-war memoir, The Man who Never Was, he reveals the incredible
true story behind ‘Operation Mincemeat’.
How To Be A Public Author is a novel all about the Man Booker,
using the prize as a springboard to explore what it means to be an
author - and a human being - in the 21st century. It documents a
series of fictitious happenings at real author events, as visited
by the wonderful anti-hero Francis Plug - a troubled and often
drunk misfit who causes chaos and confusion wherever he goes.
Inventive, funny and moving, How To Be A Public Author is both a
brilliant slapstick comedy and a surprising and touching meditation
on loneliness.

As a black Appalachian woman, Memphis Tennessee Garrison belonged
to a demographic category triply ignored by historians.
The daughter of former slaves, she moved to McDowell County, West
Virginia, at an early age and died at ninety-eight in Huntington.
The coalfields of McDowell County were among the richest seams in
the nation. As Garrison makes clear, the backbone of the early
mining work force--those who laid the railroad tracks, manned the
coke ovens, and dug the coal--were black miners. These miners and
their families created communities that became the centers of the
struggle for unions, better education, and expanded civil rights.
Memphis Tennessee Garrison, an innovative teacher, administrative
worker at U.S. Steel, and vice president of the National Board of
the NAACP at the height of the civil rights struggle (1963-66), was
involved with all of these struggles.
In many ways, this oral history, based on interview transcripts, is
the untold and multidimensional story of African American life in
West Virginia, as seen through the eyes of a remarkable woman. She
portrays a courageous people who organize to improve their working
conditions, send their children to school and then to college, own
land, and support a wide range of cultural and political
activities.
