The 1992 environmental summit conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
emphasized the threat continued economic growth poses to life
support environmental systems and natural resource bases. Since
then the rallying cry for nations has become sustainable
development. Muschett and the contributing authors clearly and
concisely address the critical questions: What is sustainable
development? How can we achieve it? What are the implications for
developing economies and managing the environment? How do we
measure progress in sustainable development?

Elizabethan period, including: Institutions Social and economic
structures The marriage question and the problem of the succession
Family and household Cultural life The Church and religious affairs

Person-Centered Memory and Communication Interventions for
Dementia: A Case Study Approach is the third volume in the "Medical
Speech-Language Pathology" book series. It is a practical,
peer-reviewed resource for speech-language pathologists (SLPs)
working with people with dementia. In this unique text, the authors
cover a variety of evidence-based clinical procedures for the
memory, communication, and behavioral challenges of people with
dementia. The aim is to empower SLPs and other clinicians to
implement practices that elevate the personhood of people living
with various dementia syndromes. Throughout this clinician-friendly
text, the authors cover three main areas of focus: elevating
personhood, the "how tos" of clinical procedures, and the
organizational-level barriers and facilitators to implementation.
After an introductory chapter, the next eight chapters describe a
detailed case study that explains specific person-centered
assessment and treatment methods. The cases depict a diverse group
of people providing insights into the range of concerns and joys
involved in supporting memory and communication in a manner that is
culturally responsive and equitable.
What started out as a way to address dealing with parenting and, in
particular, fatherhood, became a series of poems focused on
familial roles and situations that are difficult to articulate,
even among family members. The poems in "Zero to Three" mark both
the change in the child and in the father, who is also a son
himself. The term "zero to three" derives from the developmental
period that many clinicians and pediatricians believe is the most
fundamental phase for children whose delicate brains are undergoing
drastic and formative change. Research also shows that parents
undergo formative change alongside their children during this
period from conception to toddler age.
These poems do not intend to offer a definitive stance on parenting
or fatherhood but, rather, to capture an emotional gestational
period that extends beyond the womb and exceeds beyond the grave.
They celebrate pop culture and family, as well as lament the
anguish and frustration of a parent losing his temper or a parent
losing a parent. Ultimately, these poems attempt to sing and dance
in the fact that parenting is a wonderful mystery to witness and
experience.

Although health outcomes and other measures of well-being in the
United States have vastly improved over recent decades, gains in
Appalachia have been more modest than in other parts of the
country. The common refrain is that this 'lagging behind' is a
result of Appalachia's persistent poverty and bleak labour-market
outlook; yet economic explanations reveal an incomplete picture.
Appalachian Health explores major challenges and opportunities for
promoting the health and well-being of the people of Appalachia, a
historically underserved population. It considers the intersections
of health and social, political and economic factors to shed light
on the trends affecting mortality and morbidity among the region's
residents. This edited volume brings together high-profile authors
from across academia, public health and government to offer
perspectives on a wide range of topics including health behaviors,
environmental justice, and pandemic preparedness. This volume also
provides updated data on issues such as opioid abuse, 'deaths of
despair', and the social determinants of health. Using a
multidisciplinary approach, Appalachian Health offers a timely and
much-needed optimistic account of health status in Appalachia. By
more closely studying Appalachia face=Calibri>- which is, in
many ways, emblematic of rural regions across the United States
face=Calibri>- this volume both better illuminates the complex
determinants of health and offers a more systematic way to evaluate
processes affecting well-being in rural places.
Congregations say they want to reach new and younger people, many
of whom are simply turned off by church. The big idea is that
congregations must be willing to embrace radical ways to connect
with new generations. Re-thinking old assumptions is a starting
place but more is needed. To really connect congregations have to
move beyond and start doing new things that are out of their
comfort zones. These authors give ten ways to help you move from
just saying what you intend to actually doing it. This book
provides tools to help churches re-frame the Good News in
non-traditional ways and study questions for church leadership
teams.
