Saint Peter was a crucial figure in early Christianity; as one of
the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ, he oversaw the formal
establishment of the early church and became the first Bishop of
Rome. Peter's formative years were spent as a fisherman. It was
here that the purpose of his disciple status was unveiled: Peter
was to become a 'fisher of men'; helping others believe in the
Lord. These and other events are told in this biography, which
investigates the ways in which Peter sought to enlighten and catch
souls of men, that they be set on a righteous path to God and the
Holy Spirit. Peter's humble beginnings soon transform through his
pursuit of God; he accompanies Jesus as one of his twelve apostles,
and is listed foremost among them in all sources. His spiritual
guidance and devotion to the mission of Christ has great bearing on
the foundation of the Christian church; Peter also witnessed the
Resurrection of Jesus first-hand, and delivered some of the first
sermons following this revelatory event.

F. B. Meyer's examination of the Prophet Elijah is counted among
the most spiritually intensive and detailed ever to be written. The
author first places the subject in its historical context - Elijah
lived at a time when Israel was divided. Formerly a cohesive
society under the able guidance of King Solomon, the Kingdom of
Israel and Judah were at odds. The Book of Kings recounts Elijah's
ascendance, wherein he became one of the greatest holy men ever
seen. Meyer examines the life of the great prophet with a close
examination of the scriptures. The various interactions between
Elijah and Ahab for example are closely narrated, with their
rivalry and conflict over the worship of other Gods analyzed. Meyer
discusses the emotional states of Elijah and others, how life's
trials presented challenge after challenge, with the gradual,
transforming effect of making Eljiah one of God's greatest
prophets. F. B. Meyer's books have lost none of their vital
essence, their contents being for all-time.
Meyer's spirited and moving account of the life of King David
follows the progress of David from humble shepherd to glorious king
of Israel and Judah. The story of David's life and rise from modest
beginnings is one of the most celebrated in the Old Testament
tradition. This book is an attempt by F. B. Meyer to tell the story
of David with a sequential and lively narrative, with the Bible as
a source. Meyer's account is readable, colorful and thoroughly
rooted in the authentic Biblical canon. We first see David as a
bright, courageous young lad, who ascends from obscurity to fame
and renown by fighting and defeating the great Goliath. Not merely
a great leader, David takes to authoring a great series of sacred
songs and hymns celebrating life and the Lord. His wise leadership,
which increased the influence of Judaism and its interpretation of
God, led David to become one of the most important figures in the
Holy Bible.
Our Daily Walk is an exceptional collection of 366 Bible readings,
one for every day of the Christian year. These discussions
encourage the reader to be mindful of virtue and the essential
teachings of the Bible scripture. For decades, F. B. Meyer
delivered lectures and sermons regarding matters important to the
congregation. Speaking with those who attended his talks, he gained
a good impression of what the Christian believer was concerned
about, and what they required for spiritual nourishment in their
day-to-day lives. This convenient book represents the sum of
Meyer's years of Bible study and preaching; a collection of
poignant passages chosen for their ability to inspire those in need
of advice or motivation. Our Daily Walk draws on both the New and
Old Testaments of the Bible, with many of a given day's discussions
referencing multiple books to crystallize the lessons in the
reader's mind. Each thought is aptly concluded with a prayer that
the reader can keep in mind throughout a day's trials.
