This paper outlines the importance of tracking adaptation in the context of the implementation of the Paris Agreement and provides a flexible and consistent indicator framework for tracking adaptation in agricultural sectors (including agriculture, forestry, and fisheries and aquaculture) at national level. The framework is based on the recognition that adaptation should be tracked by analyzing a number of different indicators across agricultural sub-sectors.
Thirty-eight pesticides were evaluated for toxicity and residues at the 2017 Joint Meeting of the FAO Panel of Experts on Pesticide Residues in Food and the Environment and the WHO Core Assessment Group on Pesticide Residues (JMPR). This included 8 new compounds and 5 compounds that were due for re-evaluation. The report contains recommendations on maximum pesticide residue limits and general principles for dietary risk assessment. These recommendations are proposed for use by governments and other interested parties. The JMPR report and evaluations are the only global reviews available of pesticide residue data.
Against a global backdrop of climate change, widespread food insecurity, deforestation and forest degradation, this paper highlights the role of sustainable woodfuel in improving food security. It provides insights into how this role can be strengthened at all stages of production, trade and use, particularly for the many vulnerable groups who depend on woodfuel. With adequate policy and legal frameworks in place, woodfuel production and harvesting can be sustainable and serve as a major source of green energy. In addition, the widespread availability of woodfuel, and enormous market for it, present opportunities for employment and for sustainable value chains.

The international community has committed to ending hunger and malnutrition by 2030. But can we overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of meeting this target? The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2017 offers some answers. This year's edition focuses specifically on the dramatic effects that ongoing conflicts are having on levels of food insecurity and malnutrition across the world, and sets out a path to help build peace and food security for all. Thanks to the collaboration of five key UN agencies, with WHO and UNICEF joining IFAD and WFP as partners under FAO's lead, this report is a first step towards a comprehensive global analysis of the links between food security and nutrition.
