The enemy is in our waters . . .
July 1941
Having left England to join his father in the South Africa, Lieutenant
Jack Pembroke has found a new home – and a new love – in Cape Town and
is put in command of a small, anti-submarine flotilla at the Royal Navy
base in Simonstown. He has precious little time to train his men, and
prepare his ships, for the arrival of deadly Nazi wolf packs – U-boats
sent by Admiral Dönitz from bases in France to cripple the Cape convoy
route. With the Mediterranean all-but closed to maritime traffic, and
Rommel’s forces rampaging through North Africa, this sea route is vital
to supplying Allied forces in Egypt at a critical point in World War II.
Everything will hang in the balance with the arrival of the enemy in
South African waters. Gruppe Savanne comprises five long-range Uboats
under the command of Fregattenkapitän Wolfgang Brand, a hardened
veteran, who will stretch the Cape’s defences to the limit. On board he
carries a South African spy and ardent Nazi, who is to be landed on the
West Coast to start a campaign of sabotage, assassination and rebellion
bent on toppling the pro-British government of Prime Minister Jan Smuts.
With the spy safely ashore, and the Cape Peninsula under attack, Jack
must now escort a convoy to Durban with the U-boat pack lying in wait.
So begins a cat-and-mouse game that will push Jack and his men to
breaking point. The Wolf Hunt is the second book in the thrilling Jack
Pembroke series, each of which is a stand-alone story.
It's the perfect getaway. But the past will always find you . . .
When ex-cop Bill Robinson takes over The Inn by the Sea, all he wants
is a quiet escape from the city.
But when a crime boss moves into town and begins terrorising Bill's
friends, he can't just sit back and watch.
It's not long before local criminals are turning up dead and The Inn
comes under attack.
With the help of The Inn's fearless residents, Bill must do everything
he can to defend his town, his chosen family, and his home.
Attorney Rhonda Bird returns home to LA to bury her estranged father, and discovers that he left her two final surprises.
The first is a private detective agency that he set up after leaving his job as an accountant; the second is a teenage half sister named Baby.
When Rhonda goes into her father's old office to close down the business, she gets drawn into a case involving a young man who claims he was abducted. The investigation takes Rhonda and Baby to dark and dangerous places, and they become the target of a criminal cartel seeking revenge . . .

Megan Fox showcases her wicked humor throughout a heartbreaking and dark collection of poetry. Over the course of more than 80 poems, Fox chronicles all the ways in which we fit ourselves into the shape of the ones we love, even if it means losing ourselves in the process.
"These poems were written in an attempt to excise the illness that had taken root in me because of my silence. I've spent my entire life keeping the secrets of men, my body aches from carrying the weight of their sins. My freedom lives in these pages, and I hope that my words can inspire others to take back their happiness and their identity by using their voice to illuminate what's been buried, but not forgotten, in the darkness," says Fox.
Pretty Boys Are Poisonous marks the powerful debut from one of the most well-known women of our time. Turn the page, bite the apple, and sink your teeth into the most deliciously compelling and addictive book you'll read all year.
“Let us, then, set off together on a series of journeys around South Africa with an old kitbag full of books instead of maps to guide us. Let us follow meandering paths through the landscapes of literature, and celebrate how local authors, characters and readers are shaped and inspired by place …”
In this gripping travelogue, Justin Fox goes on a one-of-a-kind journey. Marrying his love for travel and writing, he sets off to explore the places of his favourite books. From the mountainous eastern Karoo of Olive Schreiner to the big-game lowveld of Sir Percy Fitzpatrick, from Deneys Reitz’s wide-open Cape interior to the bushveld of Eugène Marais’s Waterberg, Fox reveals the majestic power of place. Through the savannah of Herman Charles Bosman’s Marico, the dusty plains of JM Coetzee’s Moordenaars Karoo, the forests of Dalene Matthee’s Garden Route, the subtropical hamlets of Zakes Mda’s Wild Coast, and finally the sandstone crags of Stephen Watson’s Cederberg, he brings to life the settings we’ve only seen through characters’ eyes.
Place is a moving love letter to South Africa, merging literature and landscape, and taking the reader on a breath-taking journey – into the heart of South Africa’s spectacular landscape and the inner-worlds of its most celebrated authors.
This innovative textbook, now in its second edition, presents EU
competition law in political, economic and comparative context. It
brings competition law to life from an EU and global perspective,
with cross currents of trade and industrial policy and attention to
the intervention of the state in the market. Quintessentially
readable, the book deftly and concisely excerpts the key cases and
embeds them in explanatory materials, including policy statements
and regulations. It is entirely up to date and integrates, for
example, new issues of power in the digital economy. Notes
accompanying the cases raise hard questions and explain the
fascinating issues underlying contemporary competition policy in
the European Union and around the world. The book covers the full
range of competition law and policy subjects, namely: the Treaties
and the single market, cartels, other horizontal and vertical
agreements, abuses of dominance, merger control, and state
restraints including State aids. Among key features, the book:
integrates law, economics and policies, providing a holistic sense
of competition law and its place in the EU system is unusually
concise, given its coverage, while explaining the critical nuances
of cases by means of notes and questions provides a unique
comparative perspective by including excerpts of landmark US
antitrust cases and numerous other comparative references. This
book is a perfect textbook for students of EU competition law and
even competition law in general, given that most nations in the
antitrust family of the world build their competition laws upon the
EU model. It is useful for specialized seminars on European, US,
and other nations’ and regions’ competition laws. It is also an
excellent desk book and resource for academics, enforcers and
practitioners in the field.
From the New York Times bestselling author of THE FAMILY FIRM,
comes a practical exploration on how second (and later) pregnancies
can feel different to the first time around. On what can feel like
uneven terrain, navigating or planning a pregnancy after
complications can plunge you into an unfamiliar world of
decision-making; conversations with medical providers can be hard
and scary, and with a lack of information given to you, it can feel
like you aren't given any choices about what happens to you at all.
Second pregnancies can present you with a whole new set of
questions and perspectives on your experience, body and wellbeing.
And with around 50% of pregnancies experiencing complications, this
means as much as half of later pregnancies carry this extra layer
of difficulty. Will the experience of conception and pregnancy
(good or bad) be the same this time around? How do you navigate
pregnancy and birth with a child already around? Perhaps above all:
how can you make the best decisions for yourself? THE UNEXPECTED
will answer these questions, and many more.
