The book is published as part of the "PRIN 2017 The Dark side of
the Law". This volume analyzes the theoretical underpinnings of the
academic transhumanism movement, beginning with the relationship
between anthropology and technique. The author focuses on the
question of immortality, which can be considered the core of
transhumanism. The true depth of immortality will be discussed,
through which and how many transformations could be produced in
order to change our society, which is basically shaped by and for
human mortal beings, in a society composed by immortal persons.
Some writers have written about what a future populated with
immortals might look like, which is far removed from both the
bright future painted by transhumanists and from the disappearance
of humanity feared by bioconservatives.
Belonging to the realm of intelligent technologies, it is
increasingly accepted that artificial intelligence (AI) has evolved
from being merely a development standpoint in computer science.
Indeed, recent reports and academic publications show that we are
clearly on the path toward pervasive AI in both business and
society. Organizations must adopt AI to maintain a competitive
advantage and explore opportunities for unprecedented innovation.
This book focuses on understanding the wide range of opportunities
as well as the spectrum of challenges AI brings in different
business contexts and society at large. The book highlights novel
and high-quality research in data science and business analytics
and examines the current and future impact of AI in business and
society. The authors bridge the gap between business and technical
perspectives and demonstrate the potential (and actual) impact on
society. Embracing applied, qualitative, and quantitative research
as well as field experiments and data analysis, the book covers a
broad range of topics including but not limited to human-centered
AI, product and process innovation, corporate governance, AI and
ethics, organizational performance, and entrepreneurship. This
comprehensive book will be a valuable resource for researchers,
academics, and postgraduate students across AI, technology and
innovation management, and a wide range of business disciplines.
This book enhances the reader's understanding of the theoretical
foundations, sociotechnical assemblage, and governance mechanisms
of sustainable smart city transitions. Drawing on empirical
evidence stemming from existing smart city research, the book
begins by advancing a theory of sustainable smart city transitions,
which forms bridges between smart city development studies and some
of the key assumptions underpinning transition management and
system innovation research, human geography, spatial planning, and
critical urban scholarship. This interdisciplinary theoretical
formulation details how smart city transitions unfold and how they
should be conceptualized and enacted in order to be assembled as
sustainable developments. The proposed theory of sustainable smart
city transitions is then enriched by the findings of investigations
into the planning and implementation of smart city transition
strategies and projects. Focusing on different empirical settings,
change dimensions, and analytical elements, the attention moves
from the sociotechnical requirements of citywide transition
pathways to the development of sector-specific smart city projects
and technological innovations, in particular in the fields of urban
mobility and urban governance. This book represents a relevant
reference work for academic and practitioner audiences, policy
makers, and representative of smart city industries. The chapters
in this book were originally published as a special issue of the
Journal of Urban Technology.
First published in 2005, this volume considers that, as time
elapses since the introduction of the Euro, it is legitimate to
start asking what impact the new currency and the single monetary
policy have had on European integration. This book provides the
most comprehensive review of financial integration in the euro
area. The volume includes an introduction to the institutional
features of the euro area and the literature on financial
integration. It examines developments in the financial structures
at large and moves forward to focus on specific areas pertaining to
financial intermediaries, the bond and equity markets, and
market-based debt finance. It is particularly suited to researchers
and students of developments in the euro area, central banking,
money and banking, as well as international relations and
international business more generally. While the introductory
chapters will help in bringing undergraduates on board, the later
chapters will particularly benefit the early graduate student as
well as the professional observer.
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not

The book explores, through a reflection on food, the complexity of
the concept of well-being. It starts from the consideration that
food is a fundamental element for human well-being, and for
well-being of the planet as a whole. Not only does food guarantee
the survival of human beings, it is also a cultural expression.
With regard to the Italian socio-cultural context, the contributors
explore how food relates to aspects such as history, tradition, new
food styles, health, and the old and new technologies used to
produce food. The studies in the book do not simply analyse
indicators to illustrate the Italian situation in the "here and
now". As part of the tradition of studies on social indicators,
they provide valid and well-founded indications to contribute to an
improvement in the quality of life for years to come. This work on
the theme of food represents a very useful contribution to the
general reflection on well-being and its statistical, sociological,
and multidisciplinary study, due to the importance historically
given to food in Italy and the socio-cultural implications of food
in various life contexts.
Institutions and Wage Formation in the New Europe addresses the
role played by institutions in European wage formation with a focus
on EMU and institutional change in labour markets. Under this
general heading there are three broad but distinct themes. The
first emphasises the role of institutions in affecting the
dispersion of wages across occupational, age, skill, and industry
and employment contract categories. The contributors make clear the
profound effect that European institutions can have in influencing,
and in most cases compressing, such pay differentials with
consequent implications for the employment prospects of certain
segments of the labour force. The second theme is the explanation
for recent wage moderation in Europe. The contributions under this
theme stress the role of developments in the bargaining systems of
European countries and the presence of a number of temporary or
specific factors, which have helped to bring about pay moderation.
The final theme is the extent to which institutions are changing
within Europe in the light of EMU and the adoption of new business
practices. This book will appeal to academics with an interest in
labour markets and EMU issues, and also industrial relations
specialists with an interest in institutional topics.
tecniche e diagnostiche, fotografie e disegni illustrativi, molte
linguaggio chiaro e semplice, l'opera costituisce uno strumento
indispensabile per gli studenti di corsi di laurea in ingegneria
clinica e biomedica.
