Jennifer Lawrence reprises her role as Katniss Everdeen in the
second instalment of the sci-fi adventure trilogy based on the
novel by Suzanne Collins. Fresh from her triumph in the 74th Annual
Hunger Games, Katniss, along with fellow winner Peeta Mellark (Josh
Hutcherson), returns home to District 12 for some much needed rest.
But soon after, while on a 'Victory Tour' of the other districts,
she becomes aware of growing dissent to the Capitol's rule, and
realises that rebellion is in the air. As Panem prepares itself for
the third 'Quarter Quell' (75th Hunger Games), autocratic ruler
President Coriolanus Snow (Donald Sutherland), still smarting from
the Capitol's humiliation in the last games, stacks the deck to
ensure that the upcoming tournament will wipe out any resistance
from the districts once and for all.

Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon star in this drama based on
the historical novel by Sara Gruen, following the adventures of a
young vet working in a travelling circus during America's Great
Depression in the 1930s. After his parents are killed in a car
accident, promising Ivy League student Jacob Jankowski (Pattinson)
suffers an emotional breakdown and runs away before graduating,
eventually finding work as a vet with the down-at-heel Benzini
Brothers circus. There he meets a host of colourful characters
including tyrannical animal trainer August (Christoph Waltz) and
his beautiful wife Marlena (Witherspoon).
The Bighorn and Wind River basins of north-central Wyoming and
southern Montana have been home to Native American tribes for at
least 11,000 years and contain some of the most diverse assemblages
of hunter-gatherer rock art anywhere in the world. Most notable are
the spectacular and surreal images of the Dinwoody tradition, but
there is also a startling array of other forms from shield-bearing
warriors to animals, plants, and abstract images. Ancient Visions
presents a sampling of these wonderful rock art figures.Julie
Francis and Lawrence Loendorf contend that Native Americans, past
and present, hold traditional knowledge that is central to an
understanding of these images. By combining the ethnographic record
with consultation of traditional leaders in modern Native
communities, they offer compelling evidence that highly complex
belief systems and religious experience form the context for the
vast majority of petroglyphs and pictographs in the region. The
authors also show how this ancient imagery can be integrated with
the archaeological record. Modern advances in rock-art dating
techniques allow them to begin the process of incorporating image
styles with archaeological chronologies. The result is a new
approach that offers a much different archaeological picture of the
ancient Bighorn and Wind River basins.
Jennifer Lawrence reprises her role as Katniss Everdeen in the
third instalment of the sci-fi film series based on the novels by
Suzanne Collins. In the aftermath of the 75th Hunger Games, Katniss
finds herself in the underground District 13, struggling to adjust
to her new life and role as the 'Mockingjay' in the rebellion
against the Capitol and tyrannical ruler President Snow (Donald
Sutherland). Meanwhile, her friend and fellow Games victor Peeta
Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) is in the hands of the Capitol, where he
is tortured and brainwashed. Katniss soon realises that to save the
ones she loves she will have to join the revolt, led by President
Coin (Julianne Moore), and become a symbol of hope for the rebels.
With help from her friends and allies, including Gale Hawthorne
(Liam Hemsworth), Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson), Effie
Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) and Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour
Hoffman), Katniss sets out to bring down the Capitol and President
Snow once and for all.

A theory of political ambition is developed in which political
actors seek to increase their territorial jurisdiction and/or the
size of their electoral constituency. Ease of entry and advancement
into state and national politics, however, are shown to vary
markedly across the nation. Strategic considerations play an
important role in career decisions. Legislators take into account
whether or not they will face an incumbent, the quality of likely
opponents in primaries, the cost of campaigns, the relative value
of their present office versus a higher office, and looming term
limits. For example, as a result of term limits on state
legislators, patient, highly selective, and successful moves up the
political ladder have been replaced by early exits from office and
riskier challenges for higher office. Those who are too liberal or
conservative for their party and state are less likely to win
statewide races. Distance from the "winning state party position"
serve as a key to understanding which senators are reelected and
which House members enter and win Senate primaries. It also
explains why those preparing for statewide races shift their
positions gradually over many years to improve their odds of
success.
