Religion and Sexuality in Zimbabwe highlights the complex interplay between religion and sexuality in Zimbabwe. It shows how religion both facilitates and complicates the expression of sexuality in Zimbabwe. Approaching religion from a broader perspective, this volume reviews the impact of African Indigenous Religions and Christianity in its varied forms on the construction and expression of sexuality in Zimbabwe. These contributors examine the role of indigenous beliefs, as well as interpretations of sacred texts, in the understanding of sexuality in Zimbabwe. They also address themes relating to sexual diversity and sexual and gender-based violence. Overall, this book sheds light on the ongoing relevance and strategic role of religion to contemporary discourses on human sexuality.
The Bible occupies an important space in the lives of believers particularly on the formulation of their doctrinal teachings. Christians Doctrines give reference to the virginal conception of Jesus. However, when observed further, it is surprising to realise that the claims and beliefs on the virginal conception of Jesus exposes misunderstandings in relation to the virgin birth of Jesus. The recent scientific innovations about test-tube babies and cloning have further complicated debates about the virginal conception of Jesus. This book will look at the virgin birth of Jesus from a scientific point of view. The book looked at the efforts by Biblical scholars to define and interpret the virgin birth of Jesus. It started by looking at the term 'virgin' in its original Greek and Hebrew contexts. Comparisons have been made on the births of Patriarchs and the study has further looked at Hellenistic Mythology and legendary stories. The book also focus on the Shona peoples' view of virginity and birth. It challenges Biblical scholars and the laity that scientific knowledge can be used to complement Christian Doctrines.
