These essays, from a session of the 15th uispp congress, investigate the ways in which prehistoric rock art interacted with the landscape to define symbolic space. The authors look at how the study of rock art can help to define prehistoric cultures and territories, as well as to symbolicaly demarcate space both in the context of a broad landscape and in, for example, an individual cave. Big Data and Archaeology presents the papers from two sessions of the 18th UISPP World Congress (Paris, June 2018): Session III-1 (CA): 'Big data, databases and archaeology', and Session III-1 (T): 'New advances in theoretical archaeology'. The advent of Big Data is a recent and debated issue in Digital Archaeology. Historiographic context and current developments are illustrated in this volume, as well as comprehensive examples of a multidisciplinary and integrative approach to the recording, management and exploitation of excavation data and documents produced over a long period of archaeological research. In addition, specific attention is paid to neoprocessual archaeology, as a new platform aimed at renewing the theoretical framework of archaeology after thirty years of post-modernism, and to the refinement of the concept of archaeological cultures, combining processual, contextual and empirical approaches.

In France, the post-World War II period corresponds to a second golden age of prehistory and protohistory, thanks to the development of the CNRS and the creation of the first university chairs. Historiographie de prehistoriens et de protohistoriens francais du XX Degrees siecle presents the biographies of a wide selection of French archaeologists whose scientific work has particularly marked this period.

This volume presents papers from two sessions of the 16th IUPPS Congress in Florianopolis, September 2011, entitled "Crossing straits and channels during pre- and protohistoric time," and Reconstructing ancient landscapes." Case studies are taken from around the world from the first human presence on Madagascar, to the archaeological remains of cattle's paths in Brazil, and from the origins of seafaring in the eastern Mediterranean to the use of LiDAR to reconstruct medieval landscapes in Central Europe.

The present volume gathers the communications of the three sessions organized under the auspices of the Commission 'History of Archaeology' at the XVII UISPP World Congress Burgos 2014. The first part deals precisely with 'International relations in the history of archaeology'. The eleven contributions tackle a particularly productive topic in the field today. In actual fact, this seminal research field currently echoes in a way the strong trend of scholarship about the influence of nationalism on the discipline, which since the end of the 1980s, has greatly contributed to the takeoff and overall recognition of the history of archaeology. The second part, entitled 'The Revolution of the Sixties in prehistory and protohistory', is the outcome of a partnership with the Commission 'Archaeological Methods and Theory'. The seven contributions strive to document and analyse a recent past, which is still often burdened with the weight of teleological and presentist appraisals. The inclusion in this volume of this session significantly dedicated to the genealogy of schools of thought and to the study of complex methodological and technical issues illustrates the editors' commitment to tackling historical issues as well, which are closely linked to current theoretical debates within archaeology. Such is also the aim of the third part, which addresses 'Lobbying for Archaeology'. As shown by the five contributions of this session, archaeology has not only been instrumentalised by political powers and ideological interests. It has also found fruitful alliances with economic agents or bodies, where mutual advantages were gained on practical, technical bases. This volume suggests a reflexive, critical approach to these various forms of lobbying should ensure a useful awareness regarding the structural problems archaeology faces today, regarding its funding methods.
