This classic text serves as a tool for self-study; it is also used as a basic text for undergraduate courses in differential geometry. The author's ability to extract the essential elements of the theory in a lucid and concise fashion allows the student easy access to the material and enables the instructor to add emphasis and cover special topics. The extraordinary wealth of examples within the exercises and the new material, ranging from isoperimetric problems to comments on Einstein's original paper on relativity theory, enhance this new edition.
Terrorism and torture are twin evils that have dominated news headlines - particularly since the horrifying events of 9/11. In this thought-provoking volume, scholars from a diverse range of disciplines examine the complex motivational and situational factors contributing to terrorist acts and state-sponsored torture, and the potential linkage between those two heinous human behaviors. They also consider the strategies that might reduce the threat of future terrorist acts, and the perceived necessity to engage in morally reprehensible - and often illegal - torture practices. With its integrated synthesis of contemporary theories and research on the complex dynamics of the terrorism-torture link, this is an authoritative source for scholars and students of psychology, criminal justice, law, media, communication studies, and political science. It will also appeal to students of other disciplines with an interest in the study of terrorism and torture.

Geometric Measure Theory: A Beginner's Guide, Fifth Edition provides the framework readers need to understand the structure of a crystal, a soap bubble cluster, or a universe. The book is essential to any student who wants to learn geometric measure theory, and will appeal to researchers and mathematicians working in the field. Brevity, clarity, and scope make this classic book an excellent introduction to more complex ideas from geometric measure theory and the calculus of variations for beginning graduate students and researchers. Morgan emphasizes geometry over proofs and technicalities, providing a fast and efficient insight into many aspects of the subject, with new coverage to this edition including topical coverage of the Log Convex Density Conjecture, a major new theorem at the center of an area of mathematics that has exploded since its appearance in Perelman's proof of the Poincare conjecture, and new topical coverage of manifolds taking into account all recent research advances in theory and applications.
A complete calculus text, including differentiation, integration, infinite series, and introductions to differential equations and multivariable calculus. By award-winning Frank Morgan of Williams College.

Over 90 poems written over two years by Brother Frank Morgan, an 86 year old great grandfather. His family and friends waited anxiously for his "weekly" poem.
The heartwarming and stimulating tale of Adam and the unlikely team of friends drawn together to solve the mystery of his identity. Against a subtle background of middle eastern ethnic strife, inspector Qedemah Sadeq and doctor Sarah Berit and their families and associates are drawn into the arena of conflicting ideologies. Strong differences in national and ethnic origins, religion, age, and social status are overcome by friendship in the search for Adam's roots. An interfaith tour of Israel and the influence of Greek thought bring a deeper quest to the seekers, creating tension between faith and mathematics, religion and science, modernity and traditional values as Adam's friends find their beliefs and emotions stretched by Adam's journey. The search for truth about Adam becomes a challenge to his friends to take up the big questions of meaning, reality, and their own identity as human beings in the face of ethnic violence.
Why would a priest turn his back on his priesthood and walk away from his religious vocation and its demanding responsibilities? Why did he become a priest in the first place? And how do such men make reparations for their defection? Both Sides of the Altar strives to look at these questions through one such priest's life, that of Frank Morgan. This book was a "Labor of Love" for Fr. John A. Hardon, s.j., now deceased, who urged him to put pen to paper to tell his story. It traces Frank's life during the seminary, his life as a priest in the 1940s and 1950s, and as a layperson in the years that follow. Through it Frank walks through his own thought processes as he looks back over 60 years, evoking the raw emotion and feelings of his decision to leave behind his priestly ways, and enter the life of a Lay Person. It compares how he was treated both with kindness and with disdain. His narrative shows his constant persistence in trying to serve the Roman Catholic Church throughout his entire life. Truly showing both sides of the altar as only a man who lived it can tell. Insights into the current plights the Catholic Church faces, as well as poignant observations on solutions are presented in a loving and well told tale through his own voice. Frank's underlying love of the Church and its teachings are a constant theme as he shares his life story.
