Environmental challenges are defining the twenty-first century. Das Buch verfolgt die bewegte Geschichte des Landesbunds von seinen Anfangen als "Staatlich autorisierte Kommission fur Vogelschutz im koeniglichen Bayern" bis zum heutigen Verband mit mehr als 100.000 Mitgliedern.Wenige Umweltverbande haben eine so bewegte Geschichte wie der 1909 gegrundete LBV. Anfangs auf Vogelschutz fokussiert, entwickelte er sich zu einem agilen zivilgesellschaftlichen Verband, der Arten- und Biotopschutz in seiner ganzen Breite betreibt. Frank Uekoetter zeichnet die Entwicklung des LBV uber politische Zasuren hinweg nach, diskutiert die Alltagsarbeit und das wechselnde Verstandnis, welche Voegel zu welchem Zweck zu schutzen waren.
