Franz Steindachner (1834-1919) war ein osterreichischer Zoologe. Er nahm in den Jahren 1857-59 an der Novara-Expedition teil, der einzigen Weltumseegelungsmission der osterreichischen Kriegsmarine und konnte von dieser Reise betrachtliche Erkenntnisse uber Amphibien mitbringen. Diese wurden als eigenstandiger Band im Rahmen des wissenschaftlichen Reisewerks der Novara-Fregatte veroffentlicht. Steindachners Abschnitt findet sich vorliegend und umfasst detaillierte Beschreibungen uber von ihm auf allen Kontinenten entdeckte Froschlurche. Nachdruck der langst vergriffenen Originalausgabe von 1864.
