Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
For all undergraduate courses in plant propagation at the two-year
and four-year colleges and universities. The world standard for
plant propagation and horticulture for over 50 years, Hartmann and
Kester's Plant Propagation continues to be the field's most
complete, up-to-date text on plant propagation. It now contains
color figures throughout, promoting learning and making it an even
more useful working text and reference. It also contains extensive
updates reflecting the latest commercial techniques and
understanding of propagation biology. Like previous editions, it is
organized into paired chapters on principles and practices, so it
can easily be adapted for teaching courses that cover only
practical topics, and for courses that also cover conceptual
issues.
Based on a study of fourteen families in which a child had
contracted paralytic poliomyelitis. Passage Through Crisis: Polio
Victims and Their Families, first published in 1963, was widely
praised for its penetrating--and, for its time,
innovative--analyses of doctor-patient communications, and for its
interpreta-tion of the meaning of physical disability in American
society.
In his new opening essay, Davis reflects on the enduring sources
of this profound problem in human relations as well as on those
changes in the culture of American health care that are helping to
restructure doctor-patient relations along more open, less
authoritarian lines. The emergence of patient self-help groups, the
political militancy of the Gay community in regard to AIDS, and the
fading of the early post-World War II naive faith in the
humanitarian efficacy of science are some of the developments dealt
with. A parallel discussion of the importation into medical
sociology of such concepts as the reality-structuring power of
professional discourse and of the meta-phoric significance of
different diseases for different historical eras seeks to relate
developments in the culture of health care to sociology's
study.
Passage Through Crisis retains for today's readers that
essential quality that most engaged readers of a quarter century
ago: its vivid and probing ethno-graphic account of the impact of
serious illness on the family, the difficult processes of
adjustment that ensue and, in these connections, the role played
(and toll exacted) by American values.
What do our clothes say about who we are or who we think we are?
How does the way we dress communicate messages about our identity?
Is the desire to be "in fashion" universal, or is it unique to
Western culture? How do fashions change? These are just a few of
the intriguing questions Fred Davis sets out to answer in this
provocative look at what we do with our clothes--and what they can
do to us.
Much of what we assume to be individual preference, Davis shows,
really reflects deeper social and cultural forces. Ours is an
ambivalent social world, characterized by tensions over gender
roles, social status, and the expression of sexuality. Predicting
what people will wear becomes a risky gamble when the link between
private self and public persona can be so unstable.
THE BOOK OF UNKNOWING continues the leading-edge work begun in the
The Book of Undoing. That was about how-to awaken, while this one
is primarily about the post-awakening experience itself--how to
clear. Topics addressed include how to assess if you're awake or
not, why you may need a teacher, what our experience is in
post-awakening, experiments and inquiries, and dozens more. The
Book of Unknowing contains 33 articles that have previously
appeared on AwakeningClarityNow.com or other websites, which are
freshly edited and introduced by John Ames, author of the well
received novel, Adventures in Nowhere.
The Book of Undoing encourages immediate recognition of our shared
true nature. It is an experiential journey, wherein the reader
follows a mock client's Direct Pointing session with the author.
These sessions have helped people around the world come to Nondual
realization. It's suggested that the reader actively participate in
the question and answer sessions which form the bulk of the book.
Fred extends the invitation for you to awaken right here, right
now. It's Here or nowhere. It's Now or never.
