Over the last several years, there has been much discussion on the
interrelation of CO2 emissions with the global warming phenomenon.
This in turn has increased pressure to develop and produce more
fuel efficient engines and vehicles. This is the central topic of
this book. It covers the underlying processes which cause pollutant
emissions and the possibilities of reducing them, as well as the
fuel consumption of gasoline and diesel engines, including direct
injection diesel engines. As well as the engine-related causes of
pollution, which is found in the raw exhaust, there is also a
description of systems and methods for exhaust post treatment. The
significant influence of fuels and lubricants (both conventional
and alternative fuels) on emission behavior is also covered. In
addition to the conventional gasoline and diesel engines, lean-burn
and direct injection gasoline engines and two-stroke gasoline and
diesel engines are included. The potential for reducing fuel
consumption and pollution is described as well as the related
reduction of CO2 emissions. Finally, a detailed summary of the most
important laws and regulations pertaining to pollutant emissions
and consumption limits is presented. This book is intended for
practising engineers involved in research and applied sciences as
well as for interested engineering students.
zusammengestellt.
Henry Miller's son Tony writes about this book: Dear Fred, I rushed
immediately to the manuscript and began reading with wild abandon.
I can see clearly your influences. And I really laughed out loud
about our casual meeting. You have such a good way with words. I am
totally delighted by your book. You have captured certain essences
and smells and ways of doing things. I am sure The Short and
Wonderful Life of Henry Hemingway will be a wonderful success. All
the best, Tony Bruce L. Russell, Author of Channelling Henry,
writes: Fred Schafer takes on two of the 20th Century's literary
giants. The story takes off when he arrives in New York.
Miraculously, he meets an old mate of Hemingway's from the Toronto
Star. He enjoys a bevy of buxom beauties, in true Miller style. Not
as macho as Ernest, Fred manages to inject the book with a unique
philosophy, somewhere between Schopenhauer and Bob Dylan. Fred's
single-minded search for a muse, his struggle with his demons and
his refreshingly unique literary voice make his memoirs a brilliant
book, a page-turner, provocatively humorous and acutely reflective.
A man sitting beside a detective in a bar in New York is murdered.
Another man, whose warning saved the detective's life, disappears
without a trace. A conman and a former Miss USA contestant form a
relationship that's trusting and deceiving at the same time. The
detective and an attractive policewoman, who is not influenced by
people's appearances, form a relationship that changes from one
extreme to another when past occurrences leak to the surface. The
events move from New York to Paris. Existing players and new
players are brought together by fate. There appear to be links
between crimes in New York and Paris. Then a mysterious man enters
the scene and past events need to be rewritten. Opposing sides
form, but which is the good side and which is the bad one? The
conman, the former Miss USA contestant, the detective and the
attractive policewoman do the unexpected.
What are great things in life? Money? Good health? Good
relationships? Happiness? Yes, of course. And this book is about
these topics. But what if the next global financial crisis makes
your job and your money disappear? What if you are no longer as
healthy as you would like to be? What if an important relationship
becomes complicated? What if happiness seems a distant memory? In
other words: what if these things turn against you? And what if as
I consequence you think the whole world is against you? What then?
This book invites you to a journey that has a lot to do with the
way you see and live your life: the way you think about life and
the world you live in. After that journey - if you took your time
and paid attention - nothing will be the same. Great things will
happen in your life BECAUSE YOU MAKE THEM HAPPEN. Enjoy the trip
Ludwig is a wealthy banker who wants to be an artist. His wife Gina
is convinced that matter and time can't exist. Daniel and Monika, a
young bohemian couple, live happy lives with values and believes
that are in almost every aspect the opposite of what Ludwig and
Gina's lives are about. One day Ludwig starts telling Daniel his
story: how he helped political refugees to escape to Casablanca;
how he lost everything and what happened then; how he and Gina
travelled the world. But there was more. It took a long time before
Daniel discovered the banker's secret: the dark events that once
dominated his past and that even Gina didn't know. Despite all
their differences, the friendship between the two unlike couples
grows over many years. Then, one day, Ludwig's past catches up with
him.
An old lady and a young man meet on a crosswalk in Manhattan in
bizarre circumstances which drastically change the directions of
their lives. A foul-mouthed youth is killed in a traffic accident.
The old lady's apartment is visited by folks that would make most
people run to their psychologist. A mass murderer explains why he
thinks he is a good man. A cool Jesus seems to agree with him and
asks for The Bible to be rewritten: make the book a bit more
interesting, inject a bit of humour and give me a girlfriend.
Attempts are made to rewrite literary history: Hemingway's Santiago
wants to return with the marlin intact; Jay Gatsby doesn't want to
end up dead in a swimming pool. It takes a while for the police to
get involved, but when it finally happens, the outcome is one that
nobody could have predicted.
