Set in the 6th Century this is the tale of murder, greed, passion and revenge in Scotland and Denmark. The Royal throne has been taken over by the King's brother, after the King's murder. But the murder was witnessed by the younger brother, who plots his revenge by faking madness and trying to reveal the truth through the 'play within a play'.

When pop music is banned, a man (Peter Denyer) and his driver (Freddie Jones) take an old ice cream van and travel around Britain in search of bands to play at a concert. They find the three groups in different locations and enlist their talents for the show.

Betrayed by his childhood friend Fernand (Guy Pearce), sailor Edmond Dantes (Jim Caviezel) is found guilty of trumped-up charges and sent to the island prison of Chateau d'If. Thirteen years later, having learnt the art of fencing from the Abbé Faria (Richard Harris), a fellow inmate who also revealed to him the location of a vast treasure hidden on the island of Monte Cristo, Edmond realises that the time has come and carries out a daring escape attempt. Taking the treasure for himself, he reappears as the Count of Monte Cristo and becomes the talk of Parisian society; but he soon learns that Fernand has married Mercédès (Dagmara Dominczyk), Edmond's own childhood sweetheart, and starts drawing up his plans for revenge.

Three films from legendary American director David Lynch. In 'The Elephant Man' (1980), John Merrick (John Hurt) is a brutalised man, treated as a freak since childhood because of his appalling physical deformities, until he is discovered by London doctor Frederick Treves (Anthony Hopkins), who treats him with the kindness and intelligence he deserves. Unfortunately, by awakening his true character the problems continue, for he can never lead a 'normal' life. In 'Mulholland Drive' (2001), having narrowly survived a murder attempt and a car crash, a shocked and wounded woman (Laura Elena Harring) takes refuge in a nearby apartment. When she is discovered the next morning by the apartment's official resident, aspiring actress Betty Elms (Naomi Watts), she confesses that she neither knows who she is nor what happened to her. The two women then begin to investigate, and it gradually becomes clear that they have known each other in the past. Meanwhile, a young film director (Justin Theroux) finds that the mob are taking an unusual interest in the casting of his latest film. Finally, in 'Inland Empire' (2006), Laura Dern plays Nikki Grace, an ingenue actress whose latest role in a Tennessee Williams-esque fright of a film tests her to her limits. A parallel storyline shows an earlier attempt to make this film in Poland which ended in tragedy when the two lead players were offed.

Drama directed by Bill Douglas telling the story of the 'Tolpuddle Martyrs'. Having been arrested in England for campaigning for fairer wages and forming one of the first trade unions, a group of six farm workers from Dorset are sentenced to be transported to Australia in 1834 for seven years. Cameo appearances include Vanessa Redgrave, James Fox, Michael Hordern, Murray Melvin and Freddie Jones.

Drew Barrymore stars as Charlie McGee, a young girl who has the ability to start fires purely by the force of her mind, in this adaptation of the Stephen King bestseller. Charlie's difficulties in coming to terms with her unusual gift are intensified when the CIA decide they want to use her for their own ends. She just wants to be treated as a normal choice, and with the help of her father (David Keith), does everything she can to prevent herself from becoming a pawn in the government's game. Also starring Martin Sheen, George C. Scott and Louise Fletcher.

Julie Christie stars in this adaptation of Thomas Hardy's 19th-century story of a woman's passion. Set in Victorian England, the film follows Bathsheba Everdene (Christie), a beautiful, independent woman who runs the farm she was left by her uncle. She becomes romantically involved with three very different men: handsome and wayward soldier Frank Troy (Terence Stamp); prosperous gentleman William Boldwood (Peter Finch); and ever-patient shepherd Gabriel Oak (Alan Bates).
