Early Warning for Geological Disasters - Scientific Methods and Current Practice (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original... Early Warning for Geological Disasters - Scientific Methods and Current Practice (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2014)
Friedemann Wenzel, Jochen Zschau
R5,655 Discovery Miles 56 550 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The past years have seen new technologies that could be utilized for early warning and real-time loss estimation. They include self-organizing sensor networks, new satellite imagery with high resolution, multi-sensor observational capacities, and crowd sourcing. From this and improved physical models, data processing and communication methodologies a significant step towards better early warning technologies has been achieved by research. At the same time, early warning systems became part of the disaster management practice for instance in Japan and Indonesia. This book marks the important point where: Research activities continue to improve early warning Experience with applications is expanding At this critical point in development of early warning for geological disasters it is timely to provide a volume that documents the state-of-the-art, provides an overview on recent developments and serves as knowledge resource for researcher and practitioners.

Perspectives in Modern Seismology (Paperback, Softcover reprint of hardcover 1st ed. 2005): Friedemann Wenzel Perspectives in Modern Seismology (Paperback, Softcover reprint of hardcover 1st ed. 2005)
Friedemann Wenzel
R2,940 Discovery Miles 29 400 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The core of this book is based on the unique cooperation between earth scientists and civil engineers working in the field of strong earthquakes in the Vrancea region of Rumania and the capital city Bucharest. It goes on to review the results of deep seismic tomography from mantel pumes, deep lithospehric properties from Russian nuclear explosion data and high -resolution imaging in seismics. Finally, the third part of this book focusses on the effect of tectonics on plate motions and civilisation.

Dies findet man in fast allen Kulturkreisen in Erdbebengebieten.
