This book (hardcover) is part of the TREDITION CLASSICS. It
contains classical literature works from over two thousand years.
Most of these titles have been out of print and off the bookstore
shelves for decades. The book series is intended to preserve the
cultural legacy and to promote the timeless works of classical
literature. Readers of a TREDITION CLASSICS book support the
mission to save many of the amazing works of world literature from
oblivion. With this series, tredition intends to make thousands of
international literature classics available in printed format again
- worldwide.
The Lost Legions explores the cultural interactions between
Indigenous peoples and European settlers. Paterson draws especially
on archaeological evidence from central Australia, where European
pastoralists found themselves in the heart of the territory of the
Aborigine Arabana people. Paterson also considers other sources of
information-such as oral histories, onomastics, and evidence of
culture contact in the Americas and South Africa-to develop a broad
understanding of what happens when such different civilizations
encounter one another.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 30th Annual
International Conference on the Theory and Applications of
Cryptographic Techniques, EUROCRYPT 2011, held in Tallinn, Estonia,
in May 2011. The 31 papers, presented together with 2 invited
talks, were carefully reviewed and selected from 167 submissions.
The papers are organized in topical sections on lattice-base
cryptography, implementation and side channels, homomorphic
cryptography, signature schemes, information-theoretic
cryptography, symmetric key cryptography, attacks and algorithms,
secure computation, composability, key dependent message security,
and public key encryption.
The ninth in the series of IMA Conferences on Cryptography and
Coding was held (as ever) at the Royal Agricultural College,
Cirencester, from 16-18 Dec- ber 2003. The conference's varied
programme of 4 invited and 25 contributed papers is represented in
this volume. The contributed papers were selected from the 49
submissions using a - reful refereeing process. The contributed and
invited papers are grouped into 5 topics: coding and applications;
applications of coding in cryptography; cryp- graphy;
cryptanalysis; and network security and protocols. These topic
headings represent the breadth of activity in the areas of coding,
cryptography and c- munications, and the rich interplay between
these areas.
Assemblingtheconferenceprogrammeandthisproceedingsrequiredthehelp
of many individuals. I would like to record my appreciation of them
here. Firstly, I would like to thank the programme committee who
aided me - mensely by evaluating the submissions, providing
detailed written feedback for the authors of many of the papers,
and advising me at many critical points - ring the process. Their
help and cooperation was essential, especially in view of the short
amount of time available to conduct the reviewing task. The c-
mittee this year consisted of Mike Darnell, Mick Ganley, Bahram
Honary, Chris Mitchell, Matthew Parker, Nigel Smart and Mike
Walker.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the
Cryptographer's Track at the RSA Conference 2021, CT-RSA 2021, held
in San Francisco, CA, USA, in May 2021.*The 27 full papers
presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from
100 submissions. CT-RSA is the track devoted to scientific papers
on cryptography, public-key to symmetric-key cryptography and from
crypto-graphic protocols to primitives and their implementation
security. *The conference was held virtually.
This book contains revised selected papers from the 26th
International Conference on Selected Areas in Cryptography, SAC
2019, held in Waterloo, ON, Canada, in August 2019. The 26 full
papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and
selected from 74 submissions. They cover the following research
areas: Design and analysis of symmetric key primitives and
cryptosystems, including block and stream ciphers, hash functions,
MAC algorithms, and authenticated encryption schemes, efficient
implementations of symmetric and public key algorithms,
mathematical and algorithmic aspects of applied cryptology,
cryptography for the Internet of Things.
Paterson tells the fascinating story of the love-hate relationship that has grown between Cuba and the USA, from Castro's early fund-raising tours in the USA to support his revolution to Eisenhower's failed efforts to maintain support for Batista.
Over eight hundred great minds are introduced in Brilliant!
Scottish Inventors, Innovators, Scientists and Engineers Who
Changed the World. Metal-works, medicine, astronomy, surgery,
architecture, machinery, transportation, geology and mathematics;
among many others, those are only a select handful of fields
explored in this collection of brief accounts of life-altering
Scottish accomplishments. From 1453 to present day, countless
inventions and discoveries are presented in a chronological order.
With the criteria of Scottish nationality, Andrew G. Paterson
showcases the intelligent and creative endeavours of Scots with
many motivations. Hailing from war-times and in peace, through the
Industrial and Agricultural Revolutions, and located in all corners
of the world, Scottish men and women gifted the world with
time-changing and original contraptions, devices, procedures and
theorems.
The first major reassessment of John F. Kennedy's foreign policy
since his death, this volume of original essays compels new
thinking about the 1960s. Basing their analysis on extensive
research in archival documents and oral histories, twelve
accomplished historians explore the primary foreign policy
assumptions and objectives of Kennedy and his advisers. The
contributors examine the Cold War, global crisis, domestic
politics, decision-making, personality and style, and historical
lessons in shaping Kennedy's diplomacy.
This provocative volume explores such key issues as the Atlantic
alliance, nuclear arms, United States economic hegemony, the Cuban
missile crisis and the covert war against Fidel Castro, Third World
neutralism, the Peace Corps, and the Vietnam War. The contributors
also examine the Kennedy Administration's policies towards Latin
America, Canada, the Middle East, South Asia, China, and Africa,
and assess the costs and consequences of Kennedy's record. The
Kennedy legacy included a deepening war in Vietnam, an accelerated
nuclear arms race, excessive activism in the Third World, greater
factionalism in the Atlantic community, and a globalism of
overcommitment.
These well-researched essays challenge us to reckon with a past
that has not always matched the selfless and self-satisfying image
Americans have of their foreign policy and of Kennedy as their
young, fallen hero who never had a chance to fulfill his goals.
Identifying arrogance, ignorance, impatience, and exaggerations of
the Communist threat as the factors that actually denied Kennedy
the victory he craved, this study reveals that he had his
chance--and he failed.
This provocative volume, written by the distinguished diplomatic
historian Thomas G. Paterson, explores why and how Americans have
perceived and exaggerated the Communist threat in the last half
century. Basing his spirited analysis on research in private
papers, government archives, oral histories, contemporary writings,
and scholarly works, Paterson explains the origins and evolution of
United States global intervention. Deftly exploring the ideas and
programs of Truman, Kennan, Eisenhower, Dulles, Kennedy, Nixon,
Kissinger, and Reagan, as well as the views of dissenters from the
prevailing Cold War mentality, Paterson reveals the tenacity of
American thinking about threats from abroad. He recaptures the
tumult of the last several decades by treating a wide range of
topics, including post-war turmoil in Western Europe, Mao's rise in
China, the Suez Canal, the Cuban missile crisis, the Vietnam War,
CIA covert actions, and Central America.
Paterson's vivid account of America's Cold War policies argues
that, while Americans did not invent the Communist threat, they
have certainly exaggerated it, nurturing a trenchant anti-communism
that has had a devastating effect on international relations and
American institutions.
