Significant developments in recent years have led to a deeper understanding of the role and function of carotenoids in photosynthesis. For the first time the biological, biochemical, and chemical aspects of the role of these pigments in photosynthesis are brought together in one comprehensive reference volume. Chapters focus on the photochemistry of carotenoids in light harvesting and photoprotection, the nature and distribution of carotenoids in photosynthetic organisms, their biosynthesis, the herbicidal inhibition of carotenogenesis and the xanthophyll cycle'. Throughout details are given of the various methodologies used. A detailed appendix provides physical data for the major compounds. Carotenoids in Photosynthesis is an invaluable reference source for all plant scientists.
In the natural world colour is obvious and its importance in advertising the presence of flowers to pollinators and in camouflage is well known. In most cases the property of colour is due to the presence in the tissues of natural pigments. But these pigments are of much greater importance than merely to give colour, e.g. the fundamental light-harvesting molecules of photosynthesis, the light-detecting molecules of vision and haemoglobin in the blood. This book describes the structures and properties of the main groups of natural pigments, their distribution in Nature, their biosynthesis and functions and their associated chemistry and biology. Industrial applications, and medical significance and uses, of certain groups of pigments are outlined and some ecological aspects of colour and pigmentation are touched upon. The book was written as a textbook for advanced undergraduates and graduate students and concentrates on the main features of each class of pigments and on general principles.
Macy is tired of her meaningless relationship with someone who doesn't aspire to make a commitment. She allowed one of her friends to talk her into attending the Hampton Gavin, a nationally syndicated radio personality Island Beach Jam party in Cancun. Hampton Gavin has achieved with the many books he's written, his nationally syndicated radio show and the continued advancing of his career. He's even successful with his 9 year old daughter, as much as his ex-wife will let him. What he hasn't' been successful with is his personal relationships. With many relationships ending the same way, Hampton has resorted to work and being there for his daughter. When Macy ignores him on his way to the Island Jam Party, his interest peaked. Will this relationship end the same way as the others? Or will unforeseen circumstances arise from his ex-wife keep them apart? g. britton-Johnson was raised in Monroe, Georgia. She has a degree in Mass Communications from Fort Valley State University. g. britton-Johnson lives in southwest Atlanta and is currently working on her next novel.
