It was as a result of having known Juhos personally over many years
that I became familiar with his thought. I met him and Viktor Kraft
in Vienna soon after the War and through their acquaintance I first
came into contact with the tradition of the Vienna Circle. To their
conversation .too lowe much as regards the clarification of my own
views, even if in the end these took quite a different turn in many
essentials. At this point my gratitude goes first of all to Mrs.
Lia J uhos for the gen erous help she has given me and the editors
of the Vienna Circle collection in selecting the contents of this
volume. Next, we owe a special debt to Dr. Paul Foulkes for his
splendid translation of the text. Finally, I wish to thank Dr. Veit
Pittioni for his constant assistance. As Juhos' last student, he
was thoro).lghly familiar with his supervisor's mode of thought and
has significantly furthered the assembly and execution of this
book."
This new work analyzes the relationship between alliance
politics and East-West German relations. Considering inter-German
relations to be an integral part of the larger political picture of
European alliances, Division and Detente examines the prospects of
German reunification and the problems of autonomous East-West
detente in times of superpower tensions. The book also covers the
Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the Polish crisis in 1980, and the
effects of NATO's deployment of intermediate range missiles in
Europe. Thorough and accessible, it is an authoritative resource
for anyone interested in inter-German relations in particular or
detente in general.
Hardbound. This volume is a general dictionary within the areas of
company, business and financial law, where the selection of terms
is based primarily on established and emerging usages within
Community legal terminology. The volume provides definitions and
general explanations in English, supplemented with specific
explanations in Danish and/or German as required. The careful
arrangement of terms in Danish and German allows near-independent
use between these two languages. Heavy emphasis is placed on
idiomatic language use with the inclusion of a large number of
complex verb and noun phrases, everyday abbreviated terms, and
names of institutions etc. When making the selection of terms, the
compilers used their experience as professional translators of
commercial and theoretical legal and financial documents. The
dictionary will be invaluable to Community business people,
lawyers, accountants, translators and students.

This important volume reviews the status of investigations aimed at
deciphering the geologic, biogeographic, and archaeological records
for the Quaternary Era--the last million years of geologic time-for
the area of continental United States. Over eighty Quaternary
scientists have contributed to the fifty-five chapters divided into
four main parts. Part 1 treats the areal geology, with emphasis on
the stratigraphy of the glaciated areas east of the Rocky
Mountains, unglaciated eastern and central United States, and
western United States. Part 2 deals with biogeography:
phytogeography and palynology, animal geography and evolution. Part
3 deals with archaeology prehistory in the northeastern states,
southeastern states, plains, desert west, and Pacific Coast
including Alaska. Part 4 covers many diverse Quaternary studies
on--the continental shelves, isotope geochemistry, paleopedology,
the geochemistry of some lake sediments, paleohydrology, glaciers
and climate, volcanic-ash chronology, paleomagnetism,
neo-tectonics, dendrochronology, and theoretical paleoclimatology.
