In spite of great advance made by ENT and maxillofacial surgeons as well as radiotherapists to improve therapy of cancer of the oral cavity and oropharynx, it has not been possible in the past 4 decades to raise the chances of patient survival above 40%-45%. However, recent studies with different combination therapies indicate that better results can be expected in the future. In this volume, the current status and results of therapeutic studies are presented by distinguished clinicians in the three disciplines. The book provides up-to-date information and encourages interdisciplinary cooperation.

After two decades, data processing has finally, and probably forever, found its niche among civil engineering and construction (CEC) professionnals, through word processors, digitizing tables, management software, and increasingly via drawing software and computer-aided design (CAD), recently, robots have even started invading work sites. What are the main trends of CAD and robotics in the field of architecture and civil enginee ring? What type of R&D effort do university and industrial laboratories undertake to devise the professional software that will be on the market in the next three to five years? These are the issues which will be addressed during this symposium. To this effect, we have planned concurrently an equipment and software show, as well as a twofold conference. Robotic is just starting in the field of civil engineering and construction. A pioneer, the Civil Engineering Departement of Carnegie-Mellon University, in the United States, organized the first two international symposia, in 1984 and 1985 in Pittsburgh. This is the third meeting on the subject (this year, however, we have also included CAD). It constitutes the first large international symposium where CAD experts, specialists in architecture and CEC robotics will meet. From this standpoint, it should be an ideal forum for exchanging views and expe riences on a wide range of topics, and we hope it will give rise to novel applications and new syntheses. This symposium is intented for scientists, teachers, students and also for manufacturers and all CEC professionals.

Auch im folgenden Band verfolgt der Autor weiterhin das Ziel, eine in sich geschlossene moderne Einfuhrung in die Metallkunde speziell fur den anwendenden Maschinenbauingenieur zu geben. Tief im Sden Afrikas liegt das wunderschne Land Namibia, welches fr mich meine zweite Heimat wurde. 1989 erkrankte ich an Krebs. Fnf Jahre spter reiste ich zum ersten mal mit meiner Frau in dieses Land um Abstand von meiner Krankheit zu bekommen. Und da entdeckte ich die Heilkraft der Natur. Viele Reisen mit anderen Tumorpatienten in der Nachsorge schlossen sich an. Namibische Kinder wollten eines Tages von mir wissen, warum keine kranken Kinder mit mir in ihr Land kommen wrden. Als sie erfuhren, dass dies oft wegen der Krankheit und dem fehlenden Geld nicht mglich ist, erklrten sie sich spontan bereit fr die Kinder aus Deutschland, sterreich und der Schweiz, Geschichten zu schreiben. So haben die namibischen Kinder zwischen fnf und achtzehn Jahren mir Geschichten, Bilder und Photographien geschickt. Daraus ist das "Kinderbuch Namibia" entstanden. 2002 gab ich meinen Beruf im Hheren Dienst einer Verwaltung auf um mich nur noch um Menschen mit gesundheitlichen Problemen zu kmmern. Nun bin ich fast jedes Jahr in Namibia mit meinem namibischen Gesundheitstraining und nutze die Heilkraft der Natur.
