This volume considers previously separate bodies of research on social justice, social equality, and social development. Eminent scholars from a variety of disciplines discuss the latest research to help us understand the relation between social inequalities and social development. In so doing, the book documents the powerful ways that social inequalities frame development and explores the conflicts that arise in the context of these inequalities. It illustrates how people around the world make judgments about these conditions and how they resist or change the practices they deem unjust. By bringing together these perspectives, the editors hope to demonstrate how understanding social development carries with it the possibility of change and social justice. The book considers processes of social development. It examines Piaget's ideas about morality and relates them to children's thinking about social rights. Twentyfour years have gone by since the publication of K. Lohner and H. MOiler's comprehen sive work "Gemischbildung und Verbrennung im Ottomotor" in 1967 1.1]. Naturally, the field of mixture formation and combustion in the spark-ignition engine has wit nessed great technological advances and many new findings in the intervening years, so that the time seemed ripe for presenting a summary of recent research and developments. There fore, I gladly took up the suggestion of the editors of this series of books, Professor Dr. H. List and Professor Dr. A. Pischinger, to write a book summarizing the present state of the art. A center of activity of the Institute of Internal-Combustion Engines and Automotive Engineering at the Vienna Technical University, which I am heading, is the field of mixture formation -there fore, many new results that have been achieved in this area in collaboration with the respective industry have been included in this volume. The basic principles of combustion are discussed only to that extent which seemed necessary for an understanding of the effects of mixture formation. The focal point of this volume is the mixture formation in spark-ignition engines, covering both the theory and actual design of the mixture formation units and appropriate intake manifolds. Also, the related measurement technology is explained in this work."
Seit das Werk von K. Loehner und K. Muller, "Gemischbildung und Verbrennung im Ottomotor" 1967 erschienen ist, sind 23 Jahre vergangen. Verstandlicherweise haben sich in dieser Zeit viele neue Erkenntnisse ergeben, so dass es dringend an der Zeit erschien, diesen neuen Wissensstand nunmehr zusammengefasst vorzulegen. Den Schwerpunkt des Bandes stellt die Gemischbildung fur Ottomotoren dar, sowohl bezuglich der Grundlagen als auch hinsichtlich der Ausfuhrung der Gemischbildner, d.h. der Einspritzsysteme und der Vergaser sowie der zugehoerigen Saugrohre. Ebenso wird auf die dazugehoerige Messtechnik eingegangen. Die Grundlagen der Verbrennung werden in dem Umfang erlautert, als sie zum Verstandnis der Auswirkung der Gemischbildung erforderlich sind. Das Buch soll sowohl dem in Forschung und Praxis tatigen Ingenieur als auch Studierenden und sonstigen Fachleuten, die sich auf diesem Gebiet vertiefen wollen, einen UEberblick uber den Stand des Wissens und der Technik geben. Auch nach mehr als 100jahriger Entwicklung im Motorenbau wird gerade auf diesem Gebiet heute weltweit intensive Forschung betrieben; grosse Fortschritte sind zu verzeichnen. 400 Literaturquellen aus aller Welt wurden berucksichtigt.
