Sweeping American Civil War drama based on the novel by Charles Frazier, directed by Anthony Minghella (The English Patient, The Talented Mr Ripley). Jude Law stars as Inman, a wounded Confederate soldier who is slowly making the perilous journey back to his home town of Cold Mountain in North Carolina, meeting a string of colourful characters along the way (played by actors including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Natalie Portman, Ray Winstone and Kathy Baker). At home waits Ada Monroe (Nicole Kidman), the pre-war sweetheart to whom he has vowed to return. In his absence Ada, the shy and reserved daughter of a preacher (Donald Sutherland), has befriended the feisty Ruby (Renée Zellweger), a tough-talking young woman who can work the land as well as any man. Ruby supports Ada both emotionally and practically as she waits for Inman's return - but as the war drags on and her letters go unanswered, Ada finds it increasingly difficult to keep the faith.
(Music Sales America). Piano solo arrangements of Yared's film music from The English Patient, The Talented Mr. Ripley, City of Angels, Cold Mountain, and more.
Theresa Osborne (Robin Wright Penn) is a successful journalist who discovers a bottle washed up upon the shore. The bottle contains a heartfelt love letter to an unknown woman called Catherine and signed 'G'. Theresa publishes the letter in the Chicago Tribune, and it transpires that other letters have been found, presumably by the same author. When Theresa investigates further, she tracks down the writer of the letters, a sailboat builder named Garret Blake (Kevin Costner), whose wife died two years ago during childbirth. A tentative romance develops between Garret and Theresa, but he remains unaware that she knows of the lost letters and that she was the journalist who published them.
This Hollywood remake of Wim Wenders' art-house hit 'Wings of Desire' stars Nicolas Cage as an angel desperate to hang up his wings and join the mortal rank-and-file. His chief object of affection is a distinctly down-to-earth surgeon (Meg Ryan), who needs some convincing that the man she starts falling in love with has sacrificed immortality to be with her.
Xavier Dolan writes and directs this French drama starring Gaspard Ulliel, Nathalie Baye, Vincent Cassel, Marion Cotillard and Léa Seydoux. After being absent for more than a decade, celebrated playwright Louis-Jean Knipper (Ulliel) returns home to inform his family of his impending death. However, after early pleasantries are exchanged, Louis' arrival sparks heated confrontations between him and his widowed mother (Baye), his sister Suzanne (Seydoux), his brother Antoine (Cassel) and his wife Catherine (Cotillard), leaving Louis to ponder how he is going to break his news to them.
Nikolaj Arcel directs this Academy Award-nominated Danish period drama based on a novel by Bodil Steensen-Leth. Mads Mikkelsen stars as Johann Friedrich Struensee, a bright young doctor who becomes personal physician to the psychologically unstable King Frederik of Denmark (William Jøhnk Nielsen). Struensee's ambitions know no bounds; as well as winning the affections of the young Queen Caroline Mathilde (Alicia Vikander), he becomes increasingly involved in the King's state affairs, using his position to forward the enlightenment, implementing freedom of the press and of expression, abolishing torture and serfdom, reforming the school system and curtailing the privileges of the aristocracy.
French drama based on the love affair between fashion designer Coco Chanel and Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. When the wealthy and successful Coco Chanel (Anna Mouglalis) is introduced to avant-garde impresario Stravinsky (Mads Mikkelsen) in 1920s Paris, she is still smitten with the rich and handsome Boy Capel (Anatole Taubman), and is devastated when Boy is killed in a car accident. The attraction between Coco and Stravinsky is immediate, however, despite Coco's recent bereavement and the fact that Stravinsky is accompanied in his exile to France by his terminally-ill wife Katarina (Yelena Morozova) and four children. As the two embark on a passionate affair, a subtle power play ensues between the traditionally-minded Katarina and the ultra-modern Coco.
