Das Urteil uber die letzten Jahrzehnte in der Philosophy of Mind ist durchaus ein gemischtes. Das Gefuhl, dass die jeweiligen Theorieansatze etwas verfehlen, das entscheidend fur das Verstandnis des menschlichen Geistes ist, ist den meisten resumierenden Befunden gemein: stehen doch die Anstrengungen, den gedanklichen "Bezug" auf die Welt zu erklaren, am Ende genau vor dem als Resultat, was ursprunglich vermieden werden sollte: die Reduktion des propositionalen Gehalts von Gedanken auf deren subjektive oder objektive Grundlagen. Eben deswegen soll in dieser Arbeit nicht bei einer kritischen Beurteilung der in den letzten Jahrzehnten in der Philosophy of Mind angestrebten Erklarungen menschlichen Handelns und Denkens stehengeblieben werden. Vielmehr sollen die Anliegen, aus denen heraus die Frage nach dem Verhaltnis des Geistes zur Welt gestellt wird, aufgedeckt werden. Der Nachvollzug der besonderen Erklarungsansatze von Intentionalitat ware so auch fruchtbar gemacht fur UEberlegungen, unter welchen Bedingungen allein sich der Bereich des Psychischen untersuchen lasst.
