In Humanities Perspectives in Peace Education: Re-Engaging the Heart of Peace Studies, scholar-teachers across a variety of humanities fields explore the content, methods, and pedagogies that are unique to their respective disciplines in contributing to the study of peace and justice. Both teachers and students of peace will find value in this interdisciplinary humanities volume. Each chapter of Humanities Perspectives in Peace Education offers a deep-dive into a particular humanities field-including philosophy, literature, language and culture studies, rhetoric, religion, history, and music-to mine the field's unique contributions to peace and justice studies. Scholars ask: "What are we missing in peace education if we fail to include this academic discipline?" Chapters include suggestions for peace pedagogies within the humanities field as well as bibliographies and suggestions for further reading.

Notovitch's biography of Saint Issa, in which he asserts that Jesus Christ spent many of his missing years traversing India, is presented here. A Crimean Jewish adventurer and explorer of India, Notovitch traveled widely across the East in the late nineteenth century. He claimed to have discovered a biographical document in Hemis Monastery - located in modern-day India - from which he created this book. The bold and fantastical claims about Christ attracted attention from scholars of Christianity and the popular media of the time. Spotting inconsistencies in Notovitch's account, it was only after being confronted with these that he apparently confessed to having fabricated the biography of Jesus Christ. For some years the entire matter was considered a hoax; until the Indian mystic Swami Abhedananda visited the Hemis Monastery where a monk confirmed that Notovitch had stayed some six weeks there, convalescing with a broken leg, whereupon he read the disputed documents concerning Christ.

Exposed to yoga from early childhood, Veena S. Gandhi, M.D has been conducting yoga classes and organizing seminars on yoga and its philosophy for over two decades. A board-certified OB/GYN, Dr. Gandhi has over 40 years of experience in working with pregnant women and in delivering babies. Her latest community effort involves increasing the literacy of children in India's remote villages as a member of the Board of Directors of the Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation for the last twelve years. She was recognized for her outstanding and dedicated service to "The literacy movement" in India.

Dr. Gandhi lives in Voorhees, New Jersey with her husband, Sharad K. Gandhi. She has two grown children and two grandchildren. This is her first book.
