This Voice In My Heart - A Genocide Survivor's Story of Escape, Faith and Forgiveness (Paperback): Gilbert Tuhabonye, Gary... This Voice In My Heart - A Genocide Survivor's Story of Escape, Faith and Forgiveness (Paperback)
Gilbert Tuhabonye, Gary Brozek
R355 Discovery Miles 3 550 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Gilbert Tuhabonye is a survivor.
More than ten years ago, he lay buried under a pile of burning bodies. The centuries-old battle between Hutu and Tutsi tribes had come to Gilbert's school. Fueled by hatred, the Hutus forced more than a hundred Tutsi children and teachers into a small room and used machetes to beat most of them to death. The unfortunate ones who survived the beating were doused with gasoline and set on fire. After hiding under burning bodies for over eight hours, Gilbert heard a voice inside saying, "You will be all right; you will survive." He knows it was God speaking to him.
Gilbert was the lone survivor of the genocide, and thanks his enduring faith in God for his survival. Today, having forgiven his enemies and moved forward with his life, he is a world-class athlete, running coach, and celebrity in his new hometown of Austin, Texas. The road to this point has been a tough one, but Gilbert uses his survival instincts to spur him on to the goal of qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Summer Games.
THIS VOICE IN MY HEART portrays not only the horrific event itself, but is a catalyst for people to understand real forgiveness and the gift of faith in God. Using the historical backdrop of the civil war that exists between tribes, coupled with a riveting story of escape, and a man with unyielding faith, Gilbert will forever touch the lives of those who read his story.

The Teen Whisperer - How to Break through the Silence and Secrecy of Teenage Life (Paperback): Mike Linderman, Gary Brozek The Teen Whisperer - How to Break through the Silence and Secrecy of Teenage Life (Paperback)
Mike Linderman, Gary Brozek
R446 Discovery Miles 4 460 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Mike Linderman wrestles cattle at the crack of dawn, then spends his days working with troubled teens before coming home at night to three healthy teens of his own. Where so many other therapists can only offer futile advice to struggling parents, Linderman has mastered a blend of downhome honesty and military-like discipline - not to mention a layer of trust and love very rarely found in the therapist's office. Most of the teens Linderman treats are angry, abused, violent, and dangerous-they are children without hope. Yet, despite their difficult pasts, Linderman has achieved an extraordinary success rate with these teens, helping them turn their lives around and earning him the nickname "the Teen Whisperer."The son of a poor ranching family, Linderman learned at an early age the values of honesty, tough love, and hard work. Miraculously, it is those three values that have transformed the hardened clients at his school into loving, rational, productive teens. Finally, Linderman shares these and other secrets with parents everywhere as he explains his methods for turning around America's toughest teens. Centering on the Five Primary Needs of Teens (Survival, Fun, Freedom, Power, and Belonging), his approach demonstrates the importance each of these concepts plays in teen's family life and the negative impact that occurs when a family is incapable of fulfilling these Needs.Interacting with teens on their terms and in their language, Linderman allows parents to see that in order to help kids you must meet them at their level and treat them as peers not subordinates. With powerful and effective words, he calls on readers to understand that our teenagers deserve our love - not our fear - and ultimately it is this unique and straightforward perspective that sets him apart.

Way of the Reaper - My Greatest Untold Missions and the Art of Being a Sniper (Paperback): Nicholas Irving with Gary Brozek Way of the Reaper - My Greatest Untold Missions and the Art of Being a Sniper (Paperback)
Nicholas Irving with Gary Brozek

From the legendary special operations sniper and New York Times bestselling author of The Reaper comes a rare and powerful book on the art of being a sniper. Way of the Reaper is a step- by-step accounting of how a sniper works, through the lens of Irving's most significant missions - none of which have been told before. Each mission is an in-depth look at a new element of eliminating the enemy, from intel to luck, recon to weaponry. Told in a thrilling narrative, this is also a heart-pounding true story of some of The Reaper's boldest missions including the longest shot of his career on a human target of over half a mile. In Iraq and Afghanistan, Nick Irving earned his nickname in blood, destroying the enemy with his sniper rifle and in deadly firefights behind a .50 caliber machine gun. He engaged a Taliban suicide bomber during a vicious firefight, used nearly silent sub-sonic ammo, and was the target of snipers himself. Way of the Reaper attempts to place the reader in the heat of battle, experiencing the same dangers, horrors and acts of courage Irving faced as an elite member of the 3rd Ranger Battalion. Readers will experience the dangers that all snipers must face, while learning what it takes to come an elite man hunter. Like the Reaper himself, this explosive book blazes new territory and takes no prisoners.

Trident K9 Warriors (Paperback): Mike Ritland, Gary Brozek Trident K9 Warriors (Paperback)
Mike Ritland, Gary Brozek

As a Navy SEAL on combat deployment in Iraq, Mike Ritland saw a military working dog in action and instantly knew he'd found his true calling. Ritland started his own company, training and supplying dogs for the SEAL teams, US Government, and Department of Defence. He knew that fewer than 1 per cent of all working dogs had what it takes to contribute to the success of our nation's elite combat units, and began searching the globe for animals who fit this specific profile. The results were a revelation: highly trained working dogs capable of handling both detection and apprehension work in the most extreme environments and the tensest of battlefield conditions. Though fiercely aggressive and athletic, these dogs develop a close bond with their handlers and other team members. Truly integrating themselves into their units, these K9 warriors are much like their human counterparts-unwavering in their devotion to duty, strong enough and tough enough to take it to the enemy through pain, injury, or fear.

Miracle Run - Watching My Autistic Sons Grow Up - and Take Their First Steps into Adulthood (Paperback): Corrine Morgan-Thomas,... Miracle Run - Watching My Autistic Sons Grow Up - and Take Their First Steps into Adulthood (Paperback)
Corrine Morgan-Thomas, Gary Brozek
R524 Discovery Miles 5 240 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The inspiration for the Lifetime movie and a guide for parents confronting their autistic children's journeys to adulthood.
Parents of autistic children often wonder: What will happen to our kids when they grow up? Can they work? Have relationships and their own families? Here is the poignant story of one woman watching her autistic boys reach adulthood.
A single mother barely making ends meet, Corrine Morgan-Thomas could hardly afford doctors for her twins, Stephen and Phillip. After their diagnosis of autism, no one else thought these boys would ever amount to anything. But Corrine managed single-handedly to keep the boys out of institutions-and in "regular" school. And their inspiring story became Lifetime television's "Miracle Run."
The real miracle, though, was what happened where the movie left off-when Stephen and Phillip graduated to face adult autism. From their diagnosis to the present day, when the boys have grown into young men leading happy lives, Corrine's eye-opening story is full of candor, humor, and most of all, hope.
