Show Me The Way To Plough Lane is the ultimate story of football
fan power. It is the story of how Wimbledon reclaimed its football
club and brought it back to the heart of its community after years
of nomadic existence. It retraces the club's history from its
genesis on Wimbledon Common to Plough Lane, the place Wimbledon FC
called home for the best part of a century. After rumours of
mergers and relocations, the club ground-shared after the Taylor
Report. A decade passed with the fans sold lie after lie until the
club was ripped from its community and re-sited many miles away.
Not only was the club homeless, it was now dead. A group of fans
who were at the heart of protests against the move decided to start
again - from the very bottom if necessary. And they vowed to bring
football back to Wimbledon, to where it all started. After an
absence of almost 30 years, the side finally returned home - just a
long ball away from where the original ground sat, in Plough Lane.
Box! Box! Box! tells the story of the 2022 Formula One
championship. It captures the drama on and beyond the Grand Prix
circuit, from high-speed accidents to the glamour of Monaco. After
the fall -out of Abu Dhabi in 2021, would F1 ever be the same? Max
Verstappen would be tested by a new challenge from the scarlet
Ferraris. With new rivals, would he keep his nerve and prove
himself a worthy champion? And could Lewis Hamilton bounce back
after the huge disappointment of missing out on his eighth title?
More than a race review, this book shines a light on what makes the
sport tick away from the circuits. So, strap in as we revisit the
2022 campaign through each round, along with the stories that make
F1 fascinating beyond race days.
Wimbledon Football Club was founded in 1889, and from then until
now it has had a history like no other in football. From being the
only team to have won both the FA Cup and FA Amateur Cup, to having
the club controversially snatched away from its fans, only for them
to reform the club, and for AFC Wimbledon to rise again through the
leagues and re-establish itself as a Football League side. Vinny
Jones, John Fashanu and Dennis Wise ... the Crazy Gang of the 1980s
was an intimidating team that used its physicality to overcome
opponents, but it could play as well, under the leadership of Dave
'Harry' Bassett. When you dig deeper you realise there was more to
this side than the sensationalist headlines. In AFC Wimbledon On
This Day, you'll find facts and figures, famous games, managers and
players who have made an indelible mark on the club's legacy. Even
under the current guise of AFC Wimbledon, the team continues to
write new chapters in its illustrious history.
