To drive a car or buy a gun requires a license and some
instruction. To parent requires only having a child. Yet the job of
parenting is the most important job anyone will ever do, because
parenting plays a huge part in building the future of the world.
Many parenting books offer suggestions about controlling our
children, directing them, shaping them as we need them to be.
In "Raising the Future," author R. Felice Gedeon-Gaude
encourages parents to see the uniqueness of each child, asking them
to explore how to foster that uniqueness while facilitating the
safe, healthy, and appropriate growth of the children in their
care. This guide offers methods for parents to explore their own
memories of being parented, in order to recognize the sources of
their responses to their children's behavior. "Raising the Future"
also directs parents to listen carefully to their children, because
it is through those exchanges that parents will better understand
how to help them to grow into well-adjusted children and,
eventually, happy, productive adults.
This book examines the power held by the French medieval queens
during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries and their larger
roles within the kingdom at a time when women were excluded from
succession to the throne. Well before Catherine and Marie de'
Medici, the last medieval French queens played an essential role in
the monarchy, not only because they bore the weight of their
dynasty's destiny but also because they embodied royal majesty
alongside their husbands. Since women were excluded from the French
crown in 1316, they were only deemed as "queen consorts." Far from
being confined solely to the private sphere, however, these queens
participated in the communication of power and contributed to the
proper functioning of "court society." From Isabeau of Bavaria and
her political influence during her husband's intermittent absences
to Anne of Brittany's reign, this book sheds light on the meaning
and complexity of the office of queen and ultimately the female
history of power.

A French intelligence officer, Assem, is tasked with tracking down a former member of the U.S. Special Forces suspected of drug trafficking during the War in Afghanistan. En route to Beirut he shares a night with Miriam, an Iraqi archaeologist, who is in a race against time to save ancient artefacts across the Middle East from the terrorist group ISIS. Punctuating these two storylines are vignettes from the bellicose past, all turning points in world history, each showing a will to continue in the face of defeat.

European cultural history is inextricably linked to the presence of
monasteries, especially during the Middle Ages. In addition to
serving as religious refuges, monasteries provided sanctuary for
the pursuits of art, education, science, and book production. This
lavishly illustrated book traces the development of the art and
architecture of these important buildings, from early Carolingian
examples in the eighth century to a modern structure by Le
Corbusier in 1960.This unsurpassed survey offers a fresh chronicle
of a largely overlooked subject and hundreds of marvelous images,
many of them newly photographed, of more than 150 of the most
interesting and best preserved monasteries in Spain, Portugal,
France, Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, the
Czech Republic, and Italy - all of which are accessible to
visitors. Here are unique views of the art and architecture of such
treasured places as Mont St. Michel, a wondrous Benedictine
sanctuary off the coast of Brittany, and the fabled pilgrimage site
in Assisi founded by St. Francis. In an insightful text the author
describes the cultural heritage of each of the monasteries
portrayed and provides an introduction to monasticism and to the
various orders dating from the early Christian era to the present.
In addition, the volume offers plans of the sites, a glossary, and
a bibliography. Historians and collectors of great books of art
history will be intrigued by this unsurpassed collection of
photographs and fascinating account of the artistic glory of
European monasteries.

Deep in the desert of an unexplored world, mourning the deaths of
his twin daughter and Queen, Darius, King of the Seraphirayi is
unaware of the dangers in his kingdom. When a mysterious vixen
steals his heart, and works her way into the tyrant king's life,
Darius finally feels that his life is complete. However, uneasiness
begins to grow, as his first born, Athan, reveals a deadly fire
within. Haunted by the warnings of his forever lost queen, his new
bride convinces him to throw caution aside, and Darius ignores the
darkness building in Athan's heart. Upon the births of his next two
children, regret builds as Prince Athan's actions become
dangerously violent towards his ever growing family. When a woman
comes between Athan and his brother, the sparks begin to fly, and
hell itself seem ready to unleash. Finally unable to control him
any longer, Darius is forced to turn to his enemies for help. A
reluctant hero and his wife join forces with Darius to put a stop
to Athan's insane attack, when a surprising young woman comes to
their aid. All is not lost, but the hour-glass is nearly empty and
time is running out. Darius must now decide between the life of his
son, and his beloved kingdom.
