This book gathers extended versions of papers presented at DoSIER 2021 (the 2021 Third Doctoral Symposium on Intelligence Enabled Research, held at Cooch Behar Government Engineering College, West Bengal, India, during November 12-13, 2021). The papers address the rapidly expanding research area of computational intelligence, which, no longer limited to specific computational fields, has since made inroads in signal processing, smart manufacturing, predictive control, robot navigation, smart cities, and sensor design, to name but a few. Presenting chapters written by experts active in these areas, the book offers a valuable reference guide for researchers and industrial practitioners alike and inspires future studies.
The 7th International Conference on Information Technology (CIT 2004) was held in Hyderabad, India, during December 20 23, 2004. The CIT 2004 was a forum where researchers from various areas of information technology and its applications could stimulate and exchange ideas on technological advancements. CIT, organizedby the Orissa InformationTechnologySociety (OITS), has emerged as one of the major international conferences in India and is fast becoming the premier forum for the presentation of the latest research and development in the critical area of information technology. The last six conferences attracted reputed researchers from around the world, and CIT 2004 took this trend forward. This conference focused on the latest research ?ndings on all topics in the area of information technology. Although the natural focus was on computer science issues, research results contributed from management, business and other disciplines formed an integral part. We received more than 200 papers from over 27 countries in the areas of com- tational intelligence, neural networks, mobile and adhoc networks, security, databases, softwareengineering, signal andimageprocessing, andInternetandWWW-basedc- puting. The programme committee, consisting of eminent researchers, academicians and practitioners, ?nally selected 43 full papers on the basis of reviewer grades. This proceedings contains the research papers selected for presentation at the c- ference and this is the ?rst time that the proceedingshave been published in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series. The poster papers are being printed as a separate conference proceedings."

Insurgencies in North-East India: Moving Towards Resolution aims at creating an awareness of the current status of this national problem in parliamentarians, officers and officials of the Government of India, and the residents of the North-Eastern (NE) States. The author, combining extensive practical experience in counter insurgency operations with research and scholarship, consider the NE insurgencies within the larger context of our Constitution. Thereafter he focuses his enquiry progressively from our north-eastern region to an examination of the insurgencies Nagaland, Manipur and Assam, and then critical assesses the employment of security forces in counter insurgency (COIN) operations. He concludes with recommendations for the way ahead.
To the lay mind, 'defending the territorial integrity of the country', which is the Indian Army's primary role, equates to 'defending the border'. To the defence professional in the armed forces, this is not exactly so, since physically defending the border itself is but one part of a strategic defensive posture. Nevertheless, the physical safeguarding and defence of the borders is an extremely important and emotive part of the role and tasks of the armed forces. Potential threats to the country's sovereignty from beyond its periphery are always evolving, and with the increasing sophistication and capability of non-state actors to attack targets in India, the threats are not merely confined to the border zone or region. Understanding the mutation of these threats, as part of a larger canvas of threat potential, is necessary for the concerned layman and defence professional alike, so as to organize the requisite safeguards. This study examines the evolution and basic organisation of the present system against the current potential threat scenario, and goes on to propose some changes and re-organisation to enhance and optimise the Indian state's ability to adequately protect its borders.
