What happens when a successful, middle-aged Jewish songwriter, a
hopeful girl singer from Missouri and four young men from WATTS
come together in 1953? They create the #1 group of the Golden Era
of Rock 'n Roll - The Platters. Along the way Buck Ram and Jean
Bennett guided and promoted the careers of some of the most
successful and talented groups of the 50s and 60s including: The
Penguins (Earth Angel), The Flaires (Footstomping), The Colts
(Adorable), The Blockbusters (Rock and Night), Freddie Bell and The
Bellboys (Hound Dog), Stewart "Rick" Rose (I Complained) and dozens
more.
In 1952 successful songwriter Buck Ram, and Jean Bennett, a hopeful
girl singer from Missouri, began an entertainment management
company that created the #1 group of the 50's - The Platters. For
thirty-eight years Personality Productions kept a roster of fifteen
or more artists at all times including The Flares, Peter Breck,
Bert Convey, Sugar and Spice, Morton Downey, Jr., The Pengiuns, The
Colts, The Blockbusters and Benny Joy. These pages are a collection
of press releases, office notes, correspondence and Jean's
Personality Pluggers covering a few of those acts. They begin in
1952 and continue through 2013. This collection shows how the first
international superstar group in music was created - before
computers, the internet, facebook, power steering, and super
highways with rest stops using nothing but a telephone, mimeograph
sets and a manual typewriter. This is how Rock began to Roll
