What does Corporate Governance mean in the post Steinhoff-collapse era in South Africa? It has become more important than ever, and this established work by top directors, accountants and lawyers is an essential handbook for all Company Directors, their advisers, and those who have aspirations to be business leaders.
Companies, whether public, private or state owned, their directors and officers, their shareholders and the public are all affected by new and sweeping changes to corporate governance codes, company legislation and regulations.
A new & significantly expanded edition of this leading reference on Corporate Governance in South Africa, this book incorporates a new and comprehensive Summary of the King IV code, as well updated examples and current thinking on an increasingly important sphere.
200 women from a variety of backgrounds are asked the same five questions. Their answers are inspiring human stories of success and courage, love and pain, redemption and generosity. From well-known activists, artists, and innovators to everyday women whose lives are no less exceptional for that, each woman shares her unique replies to questions like “What really matters to you?” and “What would you change in the world if you could?” Interviewees include US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, actor and human rights activist Alfre Woodard, and Nobel laureate Jodi Williams, along with those who are making a difference behind the scenes around the world, such as Marion Wright Edelman, head of the Children’s Defense Fund.
Each interview is accompanied by a photographic portrait, resulting in a volume that is compelling in word and image — and global in its scope and resonance. This landmark book is published to coincide with an immersive travelling exhibition and an interactive website, building on this remarkable, ever-evolving project. With responses ranging from uplifting to heartbreaking, these women offer gifts of empowerment and strength inviting us to bring positive change at a time when so many are fighting for basic freedom and equality.
Local interviewees include Graça Machel, Caster Semenya, Zelda la Grange, Mpho Tutu van Furth, Hlubi Mboya, Sahm Venter, Joanne Fedler, Ingrid le Roux, Gillian Slovo and Zoleka Mandela, among others.
A minimum of 10% of the project’s revenue will be distributed to organisations devoted to protecting and advancing the rights of women. Each interviewee can nominate an organisation (or themselves if they are in financial need) to receive their portion of the charitable pool or they can select the principal charitable partner, the Graça Machel Trust.

Action comedy directed by and starring Seth Rogen. When talk show
host Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapaport
(Rogen) celebrate their 1000th episode of 'Skylark Tonight' Aaron
voices his concerns over the seemingly trivial content of their
programme. When they are informed that the President of North Korea
Kim Jong-un (Randall Park) is a fan of the show they prepare
themselves for the interview of their lives. Before they can board
the plane however, CIA Agent Lacey (Lizzy Caplan) knocks on their
door requesting their assistance in a current operation that aims
to assassinate Kim Jong-un. When they get to North Korea will Dave
and Aaron be able to simply ask their questions or will the thrill
of being set an assignment by the CIA be too much to resist?

Robert Fucilla and Billy Zane star in this low-budget British
special forces action thriller. Former SAS man turned mercenary
Andy Marlow (Fucilla) is sent into the Balkans to rescue an
American ambassador and his aide in the wake of a military coup.
This CAPS study guide highlights how political and economic
forces have influenced the course of history. It uses the Cold
War and its aftermath as the thread that links up all six of the
matric topics. Nevertheless, it is careful to show a range of
perspectives, and to show how the same events can be seen through
different lenses. For each of the six topics, this study guide
offers: useful definitions, comprehensive notes with revealing
quotations, illustrations of people, places and events, diagrams,
tables and maps that make relationships and comparisons explicit,
visual summaries for the easy recall of key points, source-based
questions and answers, and essay questions, with notes on how to
respond, as well as example essays. The book also includes useful
exam guidance and a practice exam, with answers and example essays.
However, it is important to note that the essays in this book are
not ‘model essays’ to be learnt. They are included
to demystify what is required to achieve a high mark. We
hope that after reading them learners will understand the
requirements of the essay genre, and be better equipped to express
their own opinions within an essay format. All the pictures in the
book are available as part of our PowerPoint presentations,
which can be downloaded for free from our website
(www.theanswer.co.za). Teachers who order books for their class can
also request these PowerPoint presentations to be sent to them on a
CD. Note to IEB learners: While all the practice questions in
this book come from DBE (National) exams, the comprehensive notes
will still benefit learners who are preparing for the IEB exam.

"What [Ekelund is] addressing is the intention to walk one's way to
meaning: the walk as spiritual exercise, a kind of vision quest...
A key strategy for finding ourselves, then, is to first get
lost."-The New York Times Book Review An ode to paths and the
journeys we take through nature, as told by a gifted writer who
stopped driving and rediscovered the joys of traveling by foot.
Torbjorn Ekelund started to walk-everywhere-after an epilepsy
diagnosis affected his ability to drive. The more he ventured out,
the more he came to love the act of walking, and an interest in
paths emerged. In this poignant, meandering book, Ekelund
interweaves the literature and history of paths with his own
stories from the trail. As he walks with shoes on and barefoot,
through forest creeks and across urban streets, he contemplates the
early tracks made by ancient snails and traces the wanderings of
Romantic poets, amongst other musings. If we still "understand
ourselves in relation to the landscape," Ekelund asks, then what do
we lose in an era of car travel and navigation apps? And what will
we gain from taking to paths once again? "A charming read,
celebrating the relationship between humans and their bodies, their
landscapes, and one another." -The Washington Post This book was
made possible in part thanks to generous support from NORLA.
An up-to-date, comprehensive and brilliantly illustrated book on
fungi foraging in Britain and Europe. It covers every known edible
species, and all the poisonous groups, as well as a few very common
species and a handful of mushrooms included for their interesting
or unusual characteristics. Identify edible and poisonous
mushrooms. Distinguish between 'lookalike' species. Know when is
the best time and place to hunt for each species. Identify edible
species which should be left alone because they are threatened
Photos show each species in its natural habitat, to aid
identification. Perfect for all ability levels - from absolute
beginner to the experienced fungi forager who'd like to become an
expert. Each edible species is ranked according to its
difficulty/danger level, so beginners can start with the easiest
ones, while experienced foragers can learn how to safely forage for
the trickier species that other mushroom foraging guides leave out.
Des Rubens was a well known and greatly admired Scottish climber.
He graduated from Edinburgh University in 1973 and was a teacher of
Outdoor Education in Craigroyston School Edinburgh from 1979 until
retirement in 2011. Des kept diaries of his walks and climbs all
over Scotland and wrote accounts of his climbs in the Himalaya, the
Caucasus and the United States. This collection of his writings and
those of his companions conveys, with a dry wit, his great
enthusiasm for the Scottish hills and for all aspects of
mountaineering in the greater ranges. Geoff Cohen, who has edited
the collection, was one of Des' closest climbing partners for over
40 years. Together they shared many of the adventures recounted
here, in Scotland and overseas.
'Geoff's examination of blokeness is Geoff all over - funny and
insightful, making serious points without committing the cardinal
sin of taking itself too seriously. Top bloke.' - Adrian Chiles
'Highly informative. Geoff will make a proper bloke out of me yet.'
- Hugo Rifkind If you see a man drinking a pint in an airport pub
alone, that's a bloke. If you see a man driving to the tip on a
Saturday morning with a smile on his face, that's a bloke. And if
you see a man heading back from the tip and on the way to the pub,
that's a very happy bloke. The British Bloke appears simple and
straightforward. He loves football, cricket, beer, sheds, wearing
socks and books about the SAS. But beneath that simple exterior
lies a mysterious and complex being. In The British Bloke Decoded,
writer, comedian and regular bloke, Geoff Norcott peels back the
layers of blokedom, revealing the truth behind the sometimes
inexplicable behaviour of Britain's husbands, dads and brothers.
Based on 46 years of field research and almost scientific insights,
Geoff digs deep into subjects as wide as: the value of Banter, the
surprising roots of Mansplaining, the near impossibility of getting
blokes to send birthday cards, and whether there could be a medal
system for Hoovering. And ultimately, he concludes that whilst the
toxic men have been grabbing all the publicity - perhaps now's the
time to celebrate the simple British bloke in all his eccentric
splendour.

The history of Fort Wayne is deeply rooted in its connection to the
three rivers that converge at its center: the Maumee, St. Mary's,
and St. Joseph Rivers. This abundance of waterways provided great
access and trading opportunities for the Fort Wayne area. However,
their meeting place, the point at which the St. Mary's and the St.
Joseph join to form the headwaters of the Maumee, served as a
frequent flood plain and constantly evolving landscape. While
humans declined to set up permanent settlements on the Fort Wayne
"thumb," it hosted many important events. From the flood of 1790 to
the circus grounds of the 1850s, to the first night baseball game
of 1883 to a depression area shantytown of the 1930s, the rich
legacy of the Headwaters is a vital part of the fabric of Fort
Wayne's history. Today, through the efforts of the Fort Wayne
community and the Headwaters Flood Control and Park project, the
area has been transformed into one of the most forward thinking
city park projects in the country, providing a home for many area
festivals and a beautiful addition to the downtown landscape of
Fort Wayne.
