Bei der Durchforschung mittelalterlicher Predigtbande der Universitatsbiblio thek zu Leipzig stiess der erstere der Unterzeichneten auf zahlreiche Reden, die bei Universitatsakten gehalten worden sind. Hierdurch wurde er veranlasst, auch in anderen Banden nach weiterem Material zu suchen. So entstand allmahlich eine Sammlung von Universitatsreden, die ein Stuck des mittelalterlichen Universitats lebens beleuchten. Da derartiges Material bisher nur in ganz geringem Umfange ans Licht gezogen worden ist, erschien es als wunschenswert, wenigstens etwas davon zu veroffentlichen. Die Auswahl war nach dem Gange des akademischen Weges vom baccalarius artium hinuber zum Kursisten und dann hinauf zum magister in theologia zu treffen. Hierzu waren Rektoratsreden der geschichtlichen Folge in der Amtsfuhrung des Einzelnen entsprechend als ein besonderes Stuck hinzuzufugen. Die Veroffentlichung setzte die grundliche Durcharbeitung vom philologischen Standpunkte, insbesondere auch den Nachweis der unendlich vielen Zitate voraus. Der andere der Unterzeichneten erklarte sich bereit, diesen Teil der Arbeit zu uber nehmen. Der Weltkrieg hat sie lange unterbrochen. Nach der Ruckkehr aus dem Felde konnte er sie wieder aufnehmen und vollenden. So ubergeben wir gemeinsam die Arbeit der Offentlichkeit. Unser gemeinsamer Wunsch ist, dass die Veroffentlichung zu weiterer Arbeit auf diesem Gebiete anregen mochte.
