Double bill of BBC espionage drama mini-series based on the novels by John Le Carré and starring Alec Guinness as master spy George Smiley. In 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' (1979), Smiley has been in 'retirement' for some time, some say owing to his mishandling of the Czech scandal. However, the retiring superspy finds himself summoned back to the 'Circus' (British secret service) when it transpires that an enemy infiltrator is at work in the department. Smiley returns once again to his old department in 'Smiley's People' (1982) following the murder of his friend, General Vladimir, a Russian who once worked for British Intelligence. When it transpires that Vladimir was in fact a double agent, Smiley becomes engaged in a battle of wills with his old adversaries at the Moscow Centre.

Jo (Katy Manning) and the Doctor (Jon Pertwee) have been sent on a mission by the Time Lords to deliver a package to a recipient on the planet Solos. Arriving on a nearby space station, the Doctor becomes involved in the planet's struggle to gain its independence from Earth's colonial powers. But the current colonial leader, a man known only as the Marshal, is not keen to give up control, and is planning to bomb the inhabitants out of existence.
The Doctor (Tom Baker) is wrongfully accused of murdering the president of the Timelords and realises that he has been framed by his old adversary the Master. The Doctor must enter the matrix to prove his innocence. This title contains four episodes of the time travelling adventure in which, for the first time, the Doctor is without a companion and the viewer is introduced to the Doctor's home planet of Gallifrey.
Patrick Troughton takes on the role of the Doctor for this TV serial in which his evil double plots to rule the world by triggering a series of volcanic eruptions. The action is set in near-future Australia, where the Doctor learns from an acquaintance named Giles Kent (Bill Kerr) that he is a dead ringer for Salamander (also Troughton), a high-profile figure who has devised a means of storing solar energy that enables him to unleash natural disasters at will. Through impersonating Salamander the Doctor discovers more about his plot, but, with his enemy also capable of impersonating him, the Doctor will face a stern test of his wits if he is to restore peace.
