Doris Walker (Maureen O'Hara), an executive at Macy's department
store, believes in taking a common-sense approach to life and is
consequently raising her daughter Susan (Natalie Wood) not to
believe in Santa Claus. This year however, the convictions of both
mother and child are challenged when the kindly old man (Edmund
Gwenn) hired as the store Santa insists that he is in fact the real
thing. No one believes him, some even think he's insane, but he is
willing to go to court to prove his case. Oscars were won by Edmund
Gwenn (Best Supporting Actor) and George Seaton (Best Screenplay)
and the film was remade in 1994 with Richard Attenborough in the
lead.

Sheriff Sam Daly, a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, and his
husband, Michael Bellomo, have made a life for themselves in
sparsely populated Pine County in the Colorado mountains. Sam
oversees the small sheriff's department, and Michael sells his
paintings and tourist items out of his shop, Needful Things. From
the beginning, Sam has known Michael possessed gifts: the ability
to see and hear things Sam cannot. When a report of a body in a
massive snow-filled depression up a mountainside sends Sam and his
deputy, Digger, to investigate, Sam struggles to reconcile the
existence of skinwalkers in Pine County with the world he's
familiar with. Michael, though, deals with this reality through his
art, and through the mysticism he's been gifted. Sam's effort to
discover what is happening causes him to examine his life with
Michael from the time they first met. The inevitable conclusion
might be that he'll never understand the mysteries of the
mountains, but for the sake of Michael and their love, he'll have
to embrace them.

In 1943 Henry Stanley Clark died at the Roosevelt Hotel in New
Orleans, Louisiana. Despite the fact that the New Orleans coroners
determined that a brain aneurysm killed Henry, his widow, Maybelle
Merriweather-Clark, was convinced otherwise. Until her death in
1984, Maybelle believed that Henry had been murdered. Maybelle's
mastery of powerful black magic and voodoo, and her ability to
conjure the spirits of the dead, are not enough to confirm her
belief. All she's ever able to do is to place the visions, the
apparitions, the smells, and the sounds of her suspicions within a
leather briefcase, which only certain chosen ones can experience.
The chosen ones are specified in Maybelle's will, and each is
offered the challenge of deciphering the briefcase's clues. Two of
the chosen will have a special gift - the precious ability to see
the magic of this world and to understand the machinations of the
spirits that move among us. The chosen include her nephew, a Denver
cop; her personal assistant; and her great-nephew, both of whom are
gay. the tortured stasis in which Maybelle has placed him for his
past indiscretions. Will the chosen be able to free Henry from
limbo?
