Fred Zinnemann directs this award-winning adaptation of Robert Bolt's historical play. Sir Thomas More (Paul Scofield) has to wrestle with his conscience when he is appointed Lord Chancellor of England by King Henry VIII (Robert Shaw). The King wishes More's support in his decision to divorce his wife, Catherine of Aragon, in favour of Anne Boleyn (Vanessa Redgrave). When More refuses and resigns from his office, he falls foul of a plot by Thomas Cromwell (Leo McKern) to remove him permanently. The film won six Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Scofield) and Best Writing, Screenplay Based On Material from Another Medium.
Rod Taylor and Christopher Plummer star in this 1960s action thriller adapted from Jon Cleary's novel 'The High Commissioner'. Australian police sergeant Scobie Malone (Taylor) is sent to London to arrest High Commissioner Sir James Quentin (Plummer), who is currently engaged in sensitive peace talks, on the suspicion of murdering his first wife 25 years previously. Malone allows Quentin a few days to finish his work before taking him back to Australia and during this time stays with the suspect and his second wife Sheila (Lilli Palmer) in their home. Complications arise, however, when Malone finds himself having to prevent Quentin's assassination at the hands of a ruthless group of spies.
Bernardo Bertolucci directs this powerful psychological thriller, considered by many to be his masterpiece. Jean-Louis Trintignant stars as Marcello Clerici, a weak-willed young Italian who, owing in part to the torment of his repressed homosexuality, is desperate to appear normal to the outside world. To this end, he joins Mussolini's fascist party as an undercover agent and undertakes to assassinate his former university professor (Enzo Tarascio), a left-wing political dissident who has fled fascist Italy for Paris. Arriving in Paris to carry out his deadly assignment while on honeymoon with his bride Giulia (Stefania Sandrelli), Marcello discovers that the professor is now married to the dangerously seductive Anna (Dominique Sanda), whose unfettered bohemianism and bisexuality hypnotise him even as they throw his own pallid conformism into stark relief.
Matthew Broderick narrates and stars in this Neil Simon comedy (based on Neil Simon's own experiences) about army life for a group of new recruits. Drawn from a variety of backgrounds, they find it tough going. Christopher Walken plays Sergeant Toomey, the sadistic drill sergeant who controls their lives.
Director Ken Russell's first film is a comedy about the exploits of a deckchair attendant in the fictional English seaside resort town of Gormleigh. Aided by his reporter gilfriend Judy (Alita Naughton), deckchair attendant Jim (James Booth) dreams up a plan to revitalise the town by organising a film festival centred around French movie star pin-up Françoise Fayol (Marisa Mell). Travelling to France with entertainments manager Henry Liggott (Roy Kinnear) to enlist the star's help, the pair finally convince her to return with them to headline the festival. But although Fayol receives a warm welcome in the town, a series of unplanned mishaps see the festival, which up to that point had been a roaring success, descend into farce.
