Cyberbullying is one of the darker and more troubling aspects to
the growing accessibility of new media technologies. Children in
developed countries engage with cyberspace at younger and younger
ages, and the use of the internet as a means to bully and harass
has been greeted with alarm by educationalists, parents, the media,
and governments. This important new book is the result of a
four-year international collaboration, funded by the EU, to better
understand how we can cope and confront cyberbullying, and how new
media technologies can be used to actually support the victims of
such abuse. The articles initially define the historical and
theoretical context to cyberbullying, before examining key issues
involved in managing this pervasive phenomenon. Coverage includes:
The definition and measurement of cyberbullying. The legal
challenges in tackling cyberbullying across a number of
international contexts. The role of mobile phone companies and
Internet service providers in monitoring and prevention How the
media frame and present the issue, and how that influences our
understanding. How victims can cope with the effects of
cyberbullying, and the guidelines and advice provided in different
countries. How cyber-bullying can continue from school into further
education, and the strategies that can be used to prevent it. The
ways in which accessing 'youth voice', or maximising the
contribution of young people themselves to the research process,
can enhance our understanding The book concludes with practical
guidance to help confront the trauma that cyberbullying can cause.
It will be a valuable resource for researchers, students, policy
makers and administrators with an interest in how children and
young people are rendered vulnerable to bullying and harassment
through a variety of online channels.
Racism, i.e. discrimination against people on the basis of their
supposed ethnic origin, is omnipresent in schools. Apart from
students, trainees and teachers, all actors in the school context
are affected by this topic. Why is this so? How can racist
discrimination be explained? What effects does this behavior have
on those affected? And how can schools counteract it? These are all
questions that arise and which this book aims to answer with the
intention of enabling all those acting in the school context to
critically examine their own knowledge bases relevant to racism.
This book contributes to the development of school as a
racism-sensitive space in which all actors behave in a
racism-sensitive manner. Therefore, in addition to an overview of
the history of racism, approaches to explaining racist behavior and
the effects of racist discrimination, prevention and intervention
approaches for a practice critical of racism in schools are
presented.

The book covers how to deal with grief in schools. Grief reactions
of children and adolescents are described and reasons for grief are
presented: Death due to chronic illness, sudden deaths such as
suicide, accident, and severe targeted violence. Appropriate
intervention measures are presented. Finally, the limitations of
these intervention measures in schools are discussed. This book is
a translation of the original German 1st edition Trauer an Schulen
by Matthias Boehmer and Georges Steffgen, published by
Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature in 2021. The
translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence
(machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human
revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book
will read stylistically differently from a conventional
translation. Springer Nature works continuously to further the
development of tools for the production of books and on the related
technologies to support the authors.
Rassismus, also Diskriminierung von Menschen aufgrund deren
vermeintlicher ethnischer Herkunft, ist an Schulen allgegenwartig.
Neben Schuler*innen, Referendar*innen und Lehrer*innen sind mithin
alle Akteur*innen im schulischen Kontext von dieser Thematik
betroffen. Warum ist dem so? Wie lasst sich rassistische
Diskriminierung erklaren? Welche Auswirkungen hat dieses Verhalten
auf Betroffene? Und wie kann Schule dem begegnen? All dies sind
