"Collective Creativity "combines complex and ambivalent concepts. While 'creativity' is currently experiencing an inflationary boom in popularity, the term 'collective' appeared, until recently, rather controversial due to its ideological implications in twentieth-century politics. In a world defined by global cultural practice, the notion of collectivity has gained new relevance. This publication discusses a number of concepts of creativity and shows that, in opposition to the traditional ideal of the individual as creative genius, cultural theorists today emphasize the collaborative nature of creativity; they show that 'creativity makes alterity, discontinuity and difference attractive'. Not the Romantic "Originalgenie," but rather the agents of the 'creative economy' appear as the new avant-garde of aesthetic innovation: teams, groups and collectives in business and science, in art and digital media who work together in networking clusters to develop innovative products and processes. In this book, scholars in the social sciences and in cultural and media studies, in literature, theatre and visual arts present for the first time a comprehensive, inter- and transdisciplinary account of collective creativity in its multifaceted applications. They investigate the intersections of artistic, scientific and cultural practice where the individual and the collective merge, come together or confront each other.

The thirty chapters of this innovative international study are all devoted to the topic of "the play within the play." The authors explore the wide range of aesthetic, literary-theoretical and philosophical issues associated with this rhetorical device, not only in terms of its original meta-theatrical setting - from the baroque idea of a "theatrum mundi" onward to contemporary examples of postmodern self-referential dramaturgy - but also with regard to a variety of different generic applications, e.g. in narrative fiction, musical theatre and film. The authors, internationally recognized specialists in their respective fields, draw on recent debates in such areas as postcolonial studies, game and systems theories, media and performance studies, to analyze the specific qualities and characteristics of "the play within the play": as ultimate affirmation of the 'self' (the 'Hamlet paradigm'), as a self-reflective agency of meta-theatrical discourse, and as a vehicle of intermedial and intercultural transformation. The book is on methods of reconstruction of past climate, climate changes, oceanography of the South Atlantic (including the Southern Ocean) and the cycling of biochemical components in the ocean. Information about past ocean conditions is provided by so-called paleoceanographic proxies (parameters with approximate unobservable environmental variables, e.g. surface water temperature). Use of proxies and their development has been a major theme of the Collaborative Research Project at the University of Bremen for almost 10 years. In this volume we summarize our results in relation to these proxy studies. Each chapter gives an overview of a specific proxy, provides particular findings obtained in the South Atlantic and ends with an outlook on future perspectives with respect to the proxy described. Therefore it is suitable for lecturers, graduate students and scientists working in the field of climate reconstruction from ocean sediments.

Paleoceanographic proxies provide infonnation for reconstructions of the past, including climate changes, global and regional oceanography, and the cycles of biochemical components in the ocean. These prox ies are measurable descriptors for desired but unobservable environmental variables such as tempera ture, salinity, primary productivity, nutrient content, or surface-water carbon dioxide concentrations. The proxies are employed in a manner analogous to oceanographic methods. The water masses are first characterized according to their specific physical and chemical properties, and then related to particular assemblages of certain organisms or to particular element or isotope distributions. We have a long-standing series of proven proxies available. Marine microfossil assemblages, for instance, are employed to reconstruct surface-water temperatures. The calcareous shells of planktonic and benthic microorgan isms contain a wealth of paleoceanographic information in their isotopic and elemental compositions. Stable oxygen isotope measurements are used to detennine ice volume, and MglCa ratios are related to water temperatures, to cite a few examples. Organic material may also provide valuable infonnation, e. g. , about past productivity conditions. Studying the stable carbon isotope composition of bulk organic matter or individual marine organic components may provide a measure of past surface-water CO 2 conditions within the bounds of certain assumptions. Within the scope of paleoceanographic investigations, the existing proxies are continuously evolving and improving, while new proxies are being studied and developed. The methodology is improved by analysis of samples from the water column and surface sediments, and through laboratory experiments.

The Envisionment and Discovery Collaboratory (EDC) is a long-term research platform exploring immersive socio-technical environments in which stakeholders can collaboratively frame and solve problems and discuss and make decisions in a variety of application domains and different disciplines. The knowledge to understand, frame, and solve these problems does not already exist, but is constructed and evolves in ongoing interactions and collaborations among stakeholders coming from different disciplines providing a unique and challenging environment to study, foster, and support human-centered informatics, design, creativity, and learning. At the social level, the EDC is focused on the collaborative construction of artifacts rather than the sharing of individually constructed items. It brings individuals together in face-to-face meetings, encouraging and supporting them to engage, individually and collectively, in action and reflection. At the technological level, the EDC integrates tabletop computing environments, tangible objects, sketching support, geographic information systems, visualization software, and an envisioned virtual implementation. This book is based on 20 years of research and development activities that brought together interdisciplinary teams of researchers, educators, designers, and practitioners from different backgrounds. The EDC originated with the merging of two research paradigms from disparate disciplines to build on the strengths, approaches, and perspectives of each. This book describes the artifacts and scenarios that were developed, with the goal of providing inspiration for human-centered informatics not focused on technologies in search of a purpose but on the development of systems supporting stakeholders to explore personally meaningful problems. These developments have inspired numerous research and teaching activities. The challenges, prototypical systems, and lessons learned represent important milestones in the development and evolution of the EDC that are relevant for future research activities and practices in human-centered informatics.

Innerhalb weniger Stunden lassen sich weit entfernte Ziele auf der ganzen Welt erreichen. Ob nun mit dem Schiff, der Bahn, dem Auto oder sogar dessen Vorganger, die Kutsche stellen auch heute noch gefahrliche Passagen wie kilometerhohe Berge, schier endlose Meere und menschenleere Steppen fast unuberwindliche Hindernisse dar, die sich mit dem Flugzeug scheinbar muhelos uberspringen lassen. Aber auch hier zahlt vor allem der Preis. Bei der Haushaltskasse gilt es jede Alternative abzuwagen. Erst in der letzten Dekade des vergangenen Jahrtausends ist die Flugreise fur Jedermann bezahlbar und attraktiv geworden. Neue Geschaftsmodelle ermoglichen diese Entwicklung und bescheren der Branche ein immenses Wachstum. Im Jahr 2006 wurden von der Deutschen Flugsicherung 2.982.755 IFR-Fluge innerhalb Deutschlands verzeichnet. Dies entspricht ungefahr einer Verdreifachung des Flugaufkommens innerhalb der vergangenen 20 Jahre (vgl. Deutsche Flugsicherung 2006, S.2). Dabei steht das Flugzeug nicht nur in Konkurrenz zu den anderen Fortbewegungsmitteln. Vielmehr erganzen sie sich bei dem Ziel der zeitnahen und unbeschwerten Reise. Erst durch die Symbiose Aller gewinnt die Flugreise ihre Daseinsberechtigung, denn ohne entsprechende Zubringer sind alle Vorteile der an Flughafen gebundenen Airlines verloren. Dementsprechend widme ich den Schwerpunkt meiner Arbeit zweier Airlines, TUIfly.com und Condor, die sich im Besitz der beiden hierzulande grossten Reiseveranstalter TUI und Thomas Cook befinden. Die Grundfragestellung meiner Abhandlung zielt darauf ab, ob fur neue TV-Sender ein Markteintritt zum aktuellen Zeitpunkt sinnvoll ist und inwieweit die Digitalisierung Moglichkeiten fur neue TV-Konzepte bietet. Als Untersuchungsobjekt dient mir das Musikfernsehen, welches ich im Hinblick auf seine Tauglichkeit im derzeitigen Medienumfeld analysieren werde. Es hat einen ganz eigenen Charakter, der seit uber einem Vierteljahrhundert sowohl jung wie alt in seinen Bann zieht. Im Internetzeitalter steht es vor der Herausforderung, sich selbst neu zu erfinden, denn die Menschen haben andere Mittel und Wege gefunden, den Musikvideoclip zu konsumieren. Nun stehen alte wie neue Wettbewerber vor dem Scheideweg zwischen Sparte und Vollprogramm. Im Sinne der strategischen Marktanalyse wende ich das Konzept der funf Wettbewerbskrafte nach Michael Porter an. Anhand dieses Modells ist es moglich, die Attraktivitat und Rentabilitat eines Marktes zu bewerten, um auf dem Wettbewerbsumfeld beruhend eine wirksame Strategie zu entwickeln. Dazu werde ich den potentiellen Markteintritt neuer Anbieter (Markteintrittsbarrieren und Distributoren), die Verhandlungsstarke der Abnehmer (Zuschauer und Werbewirtschaft), die Verhandlungsstarke der Lieferanten (Content-Produzenten und Rechteinhaber), den Wettbewerb innerhalb der Branche (andere Musik-TV-Sender) und die Substitutionsgefahr (durch andere Medien) untersuchen. Das Fernsehen ist ein sehr lebendiger Markt ist, der aufgrund des immensen Drucks, 24/7 ein durchgehendes Programm zu bieten, sehr stark von dem Bauchgefuhl seiner Macher abhangt. Anfangs wird der Begriff der Kontraktlogistik definiert und gegenuber dem anderer Logistikdienstleister abgegrenzt. Dabei kann klargestellt werden, am Markt erfolgt eine Annaherung des Dienstleistungsangebotes von Kontraktlogistik und Spedition, somit wird die Wettbewerbssituation noch kritischer. Als die drei wesentlichen Dienstleistungen in der Kontraktlogistik sind Warehousing, Auftragsabwicklung und die Transportabwicklung zu nennen.
