In my judgment, the ecclesial and theological movement that began after the Second Vatican Council in Latin America under the name 'liberation theology," . . . is one of the most significant currents of Catholic theology in the 20th century." --Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Muller For many years the theology of liberation, which emerged from Latin America in the 1970's, was viewed with suspicion in Rome. It was the subject of a critical notification from the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and many of its leading proponents were disciplined or silenced. Now, an historic exchange between Gustavo Gutierrez, author of the seminal work A Theology of Liberation, and Cardinal Muller, the current Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Fiath, signals a new chapter in this ongoing dialogue. Catholic Dogmatics is the definitive text on the structure of Catholic dogmatics, written by one of the most important authors in the Catholic Church today. The author is highly placed in the Vatican hierarchy. Cardinal Mueller oversaw the collected writings of Pope Benedict. The book will enhance both the scholar's and lay reader's knowledge of dogmatics.

Es ist nicht einfach die eigene Geschichte und die der Gesellschaft, in die wir hineingeboren werden, zu verstehen. In "Aus meinem Leben" beschreibt der Autor sein Leben im Hitler-Faschismus, in der DDR und nach der Wende: Gerhard Ludwig - genannt Rote Socke - wird 1928 im Vogtland als Sohn eines Kommunisten geboren. Durch den Vater gepragt, wird er von den Versuchungen der faschistischen Propagandamaschinerie nicht verfuhrt. Er tritt 1945 in die Kommunistische Partei ein. Mit der Grundung der DDR nimmt er die Herausforderung an - was kann es fur ihn als jungen Menschen Spannenderes geben als die Chance, einen neuen Staat aufzubauen? Er tut alles, um diesen Staat, von dem er zu wissen glaubt, dass er sozial und human ist und als oberstes Ziel den Frieden hat, mitzugestalten. Der gelernte Maurer macht schnell Karriere - innerhalb der FDJ, der Antifa-Jugend, wird Gewerkschaftssekretar, Seminarleiter, Offizier in der Nationalen Volksarmee, stellvertretender Burgermeister -, aber er stosst auch immer wieder an die Grenzen des Staates, dessen Niedergang er in seiner Autobiografie beschreibt. Der Leser lernt einen Menschen kennen, der nach fast 60 Jahren politischer Arbeit - KPD, SED, PDS, DIE LINKE, Bund der Antifaschisten - noch immer an die Realisierbarkeit einer solidarischen Gesellschaft glaubt und sich wunscht, andere dafur begeistern zu konnen. Der Leser lernt aber auch einen Menschen kennen, der das scheinbar unwichtige "Private" am Leben zu schatzen gelernt hat und der die Frage stellt: Was ist schon ein Leben ohne die Liebe und ohne Freunde
