This guidebook offers 35 day walks across the four Cycladic islands
of Paros, Naxos, Amorgos and Santorini. Best explored in spring and
autumn, each island offers a unique walking experience and the
walks range from easy 4km town tours to 16km hikes visiting remote
peaks in wild interiors. This is the first guide to feature the new
50km Naxos Strada, which is introduced as a series of five day
walks. The walks often follow traditional paved paths which have
been used by locals for centuries and the guide offers a wealth of
insights into the history, geology and wildlife of the areas
travelled through. Dotted amongst rugged mountains and working
farmland are historic sites dating back to the height of Ancient
Greece and impressive rural monasteries. On the coast, white sand
bays and dramatic cliffs frame the expansive blue Aegean sea. For
each walk, this guide includes detailed route description and
Anavasi mapping to aid navigation. It also contains information
about getting to the Cyclades and island hopping, along with an
English-Greek glossary of key words and phrases and an appendix
full of useful contacts.
The universal and archetypal theme of how the world began has been
explored by tribes and civilizations from the earliest times. These
creation myths from many different cultures range from tales of the
Titans and Olympian gods of ancient Greece to the Dreamtime of the
Aboriginal peoples. This beautifully illustrated anthology allows
the reader to compare and contrast the varied and wonderful stories
of how the world was made, from every continent. Some of the
classic creation tales include Marduk and the Tablets of Destiny,
Five Aztec Worlds, Obtalala and the Hen, and The Cosmic Coconut.
Background information to the stories is also included to provide a
superb context for young students to understand the subject
further. It is a perfect introduction to tales of long ago, and is
ideal for project work, school libraries or home study.
London is strewn with waterways, but the River Thames twisting
through the capital can be seen from a radically different
perspective in the futuristic Docklands area to the more sleepy
suburbs of Putney, Chiswick and Barnes.Much of Camden's quaint
charm would be lost without the Regent's Canal, and further out in
the suburbs the Wandle, Lea and Brent rivers are well worth
discovering.Walking London's Waterways is an exploration, in 21
carefully researched walks, of London's varied waterways in all
their glory. Gilly Cameron-Cooper's engaging text is steeped in
historical detail, and is accompanied by clear and detailed route
maps and enchanting photographs.
