Double episode Doctor Who adventure set on the planet Karfel and in
nineteenth century Scotland. The Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) and
Peri, accompanied by a young man named Herbert, become entangled
with the machinations of the despotic Borad. Planet Karfel consists
of a small population ruled by a despotic, Wizard of Oz-like
autocrat called The Borad. The Borad has never been seen in the
flesh - only by means of closed-circuit television monitors wherein
he appears a somber, upright old man. His rule of fear is enforced
rigidly by an army of androids who destroy all dissent in a blink
via the Timelash - an instant and irreversible exile to another,
presumably horrific dimension. One member of the grand counsel
immediately below The Borad, (called the Maylin) is less than happy
with The Borad and seeks 'regime change' at any cost. A race of
former allies called The Bandril sees weakness and opportunity in
The Borad's semi-visible ruling methods and is set to invade. It is
into this volatile situation that the Tardis materializes and our
favourite time travelers are cast.
Talk about your mismatched neighbors In The Duplex, two pairs of
absolutely opposite tenants rule their own domain, with only a
four-inch wall to separate them. Over-confident bachelor slob Eno
and his faithful dog Fang control their ultra-macho haven on one
side, while fashion-savvy Gina and her poodle Mitzi do their
color-coordinated thing on the other. Clueless Elvin lives next
door, livening up the proceedings in a straight-man role. The setup
provides plenty of laughs
-- On the duplex's distaff side, Gina and Mitzi sit down to dinner:
Thank you God for this delicious food and drink that you've blessed
us with.... On the guy's half, the meal begins with, Thank you God
for our sprinkler system.
-- Sitting in front of the TV, Gina emits a tiny burp: Boy, I'm
glad no one was around to hear that Next door, Eno's belch booms
out: Rats No one was around to hear that
-- When Mitzi announces to Gina that her mother's coming over, Gina
responds, Maybe we should clean up the place. But at Eno's house,
the same declaration from Fang gets a different reply: Maybe she'll
clean up the place. In addition, The Duplex serves up hilarious
strips that feature each camp as they're involved in their own
lives. Eno picking up women at a bar; Gina pulling out her scales
to weigh herself at a restaurant; Fang shearing the lawn with his
beer-swilling owner atop the mower.
