Though originally from Newcastle, Jack Carter (Caine) has made his name in London as a tough enforcer for the crime boss, Gerald Fletcher (Terence Rigby). On hearing of his brother's death, Carter returns to Newcastle for his funeral and to investigate his suspicion that his sibling may have been murdered. After visiting local gangster Cyril Kinnear (John Osborne), Carter is threatened and advised to head back to London. Jack refuses and descends further and further into the city's underworld as his investigations begin to pay off. His search is merciless, unrelenting and fraught with danger and it becomes clear that he will stop at nothing to exact his own brand of justice.

Michael Caine stars in this epic story of the battle of Rorke's Drift, on January 22nd 1879, where 1,200 British troops found themselves completely outnumbered by irate Zulu warriors in Natal, South Africa. Having already destroyed a very large British garrison, 4,000 Zulu warriors are now on their way to overcome the handful of men stationed at Rorke's Drift. The two lieutenants in charge of the garrison, Jon Chard (Stanley Baker) and Gonville Bromhead (Caine), are at odds with each other, but manage to rally the men together and put up a courageous fight. Only a few of the men survived, eleven receiving the Victoria Cross.

After an unsatisfying spell on a pig farm, Reggie comes up with a whole new concept in shopping: a store where everything sold is guaranteed 100% useless. He names his new enterprise Grot, and surprises even himself with his success. In the third series, Reggie and Elizabeth, having sold Grot, soon tire of their new lives as travellers, and decide to set up a special community to help people live in peace and harmony. All the old gang are recruited, including Reggie's former boss, C.J., colleagues David and Tony, Doc Morrissey and brother-in-law Jimmy (Geoffrey Palmer) - but will their best efforts meet with success? 'The Legacy of Reginald Perrin' catches up with the characters from the series years later as they are forced to perform silly acts in order to benefit financially from Reggie's will.
