Finally, the first volume of Kyle's Bed & Breakfast is
available in print again, thanks to Sugar Maple Press. For those
unfamiliar with the addictively fun-filled series, Kyle's B&B
is a syndicated comic strip focused on the lives of a group of
quirky, (and often hunky ), gay men living in a harbor town B&B
in the northeastern USA. Closeted minor-league baseball player
Brad, corporate shark Lance, gossip-loving fashionista Richard,
troubled high-school senior Eduardo, and Kyle, the 30-something
inn-keeper with a heart of gold who keeps all of these hot-shots in
line. Romance... drama... topical issues... laugh-out-loud humor...
sexiness...hot apple pie and some hot guys raiding the fridge in
their briefs... this comic strip covers all the bases And
underlying it all is a warm message of hope. Included in this
volume are the first 5 years of the comic strip, along with a
previously-unpublished 2 episode story, and a detailed
floor-by-floor "blueprint" layout of the B&B. When this book
was originally published in 2004, it went on to become a Lambda
Literary Award Finalist for "Best Humor Book" of the year. This new
Sugar Maple Press edition features sharply improved graphics; the
comic strip images are larger, with crisper & clearer
delineation. Also restored are the individual episode numbers,
something curiously lacking in the original edition. These days,
Kyle's Bed & Breakfast has a vastly larger, worldwide
readership, with an enormous online presence. The strip also went
full-color a few years ago, unlike the early black & white
episodes featured in this volume, (and those in the follow-up
volume, "Kyle's Bed & Breakfast: A Second Bowl of Serial," also
available from Sugar Maple Press). What fun it is to travel back
and see how it all began, before the strip was in color, before the
characters all knew each other. This is one B&B vacation you do
NOT want to miss
The long-awaited second collection of the wildly addictive
syndicated comic strip Kyle's Bed & Breakfast has arrived This
volume finds the boys of the harbor-town B&B up to their
collective ears in romance, drama, intrigue, insanity, laughter and
the occasional heartbreak... sometimes all in the same episode The
regulars are all here: Brad, the hunky, closeted minor-league
baseball player...Lance, the take-no-prisoners ad exec...Richard,
the club-hopping, gossip-spreading fashion plate...Eduardo, the
struggling college student...and Kyle, the warm, compassionate,
calm at the center of the storm around whom all the whackiness
unfolds We also meet some new characters, such as the gruff, buff
Canadian hockey player Breyer and the mobility-challenged sci-fi
maven Dave. As always, mixed in with the laughter, some serious
issues facing the gay community are addressed, too... but never in
a heavy-handed way. Also included is a three-episode story
never-before printed elsewhere, and a nice "Who's Who" section
introducing you to all of the major & minor characters. You
don't need to have read the first volume to enjoy this; the strip
is designed so newcomers can jump right in and join in the gay
antics (And you don't need to be LGBT, either... the comic strip
has plenty of straight fans). It's hard to think of these
characters as "cartoon characters" once you get involved in their
various stories; there is a humanity & heart-felt backstory
behind each one of them. Once you check into Kyle's B&B...
you'll never want to leave
The language of poetry is particularly well-suited to capture the
beauty of nature. Now, journey into the writings of poets through
the ages, as they examine, respond to, and celebrate the wonders of
the natural environment. Divided into four sections to reflect the
four seasons, this collection includes such luminaries as William
Shakespeare, Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, and many
more, in a time span covering the 16th through the early 20th
century. With an introduction and nature photographs by Greg Fox.
A delightful collection of sumptuous pencil figure drawings of the
male nude by artist Greg Fox, (best known for being the
artist/writer of the syndicated comic strip "Kyle's Bed &
Breakfast"). Drew Danvers, a popular character in the comic strip,
is the male figure depicted in these drawings, although he's never
before been seen in such detail and full-frontal state of undress
as he is throughout this book. The pencil drawings are impressively
reproduced, (many look as if they are the actual original penciled
artwork), and are quite worthy of framing. In fact, included in the
book is a helpful guide for page removal along with framing
instructions. Also included is a background story of the Drew
Danvers character, charting his humble beginnings growing up on a
peach orchard in Alabama through his arrival and dramatic storyline
at Kyle's B&B, (with a number of panels from the comic strip).
And there's even a 3-page "message" from Drew Danvers himself,
along with his Mama's Alabama peach pie recipe You certainly don't
need to know a thing about "Kyle's B&B" to enjoy this book...
it's for anyone who has a fondness for quality, classical style
figure drawings of the male nude.
