In October Fury, a U.S. Navy officer shares his first-hand account
of the Cuban missile crisis. Using his own experiences as well as
the personal accounts and observations of U.S. and Soviet officers
and sailors, Peter Huchthausen transports us to the deadly center
of this showdown at sea, in which four Soviet submarines were
equipped with nuclear-tipped torpedoes. In a vividly detailed
narrative worthy of Tom Clancy, Huchthausen takes us on board the
U.S. destroyers and Soviet submarines, re-creating the all-too-real
events that brought the two superpowers to the very brink of mutual
annihilation. Thrilling, unsettling, and ultimately inspiring, this
extraordinary expose tells an unforgettable story of skill,
heroism, and dedication to duty.
Launched into existence by Mark Twain in 1835, Huck Finn and Jim
have now been transported by Norman Lock through three vital,
violent, and transformative centuries of American history. As time
unfurls on the river s banks, they witness decisive battles of the
Civil War, the betrayal of Reconstruction s promises to the freed
slaves, the crushing of the Native American nations, and the
electrification of a continent. Huck, who finally comes of age when
he s washed up on shore during Hurricane Katrina, narrates the
story as an older and wiser man in 2077, revealing our nation s
past, present, and future as Mark Twain could never have dreamed
it.
"The Boy in His Winter" is a tour de force work of imagination,
beauty, and courage that reenvisions a great American literary
classic for our time."

A unique and compelling examination of the Civil War s turning
point forty crucial days in the spring of 1864 that turned the tide
for the Union
In the spring of 1864, Robert E. Lee faced a new adversary:
Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant. Named commander of all Union
armies in March, Grant quickly went on the offensive against Lee in
Virginia. On May 4 Grant s army struck hard across the Rapidan
River into north central Virginia, with Lee s army contesting every
mile. They fought for forty days until, finally, the Union army
crossed the James River and began the siege of Petersburg.
The campaign cost ninety thousand men the largest loss the war
had seen. While Grant lost nearly twice as many men as Lee did, he
could replace them. Lee could not and would never again mount
another major offensive. Lee s surrender at Appomattox less than a
year later was the denouement of the drama begun in those crucial
forty days.
