This book is aimed at the parents of children having adverse oral habits and to dentists with an interest in preventing, treating and learning the damage caused by adverse oral habits on dentofacial structures. It is not necessarily assumed that the reader attracted to the book has a detailed knowledge of adverse oral habits, its relation to dentofacial structures and the malocclusion caused by them. The delicate shading involved in a decision on just what is normal or abnormal and the dividing line between physiologic and pathologic are often established by the interaction of the training, clinical experience and philosophical bent of the dentist. If parents are aware of normal and can differentiate between normal and abnormal for that age group, and have clear mind set regarding the cause and effect of particular habit, the situation can be dealt in better way. Increased stress levels in modern societies cause these habits to become more prevalent as compared to the past decades. Hence, this book is the end of thrust for knowledge to parents and dental students in prevention, management and rehabilitation of adverse oral habits.
Orofacial injuries continue to occur in high incidence in sporting events. Acute management of these injuries determines the extent to which the dental disability is recoverable. It is essential that those health care professionals working directly with the athletes during competition reinforce the importance of protection and prevention as well as refine the skills necessary for immediate management of the injuries. Sports may cause minor or major injuries. This book provides in depth knowledge on this aspect. Hence, the concerned person / organizations should try to implement all the care and preventing strategies so that the injuries can be prevented. Sufficient knowledge regarding the sports injuries and protective devices, equipment available should be disseminated to the sports persons. We have tried to discuss and summarize various aspects of sports related traumatic orofacial injuries along with their prevention and management which may be helpful to graduate and post graduates students in this fields along with the general public and sport persons. A healthy population can build up a healthy progressive nation.
