This book focuses on best management practices for drip irrigated crops. It cover irrigation methods, scheduling of micro irrigation, and mulching and crop performance. Micro irrigation techniques with diverse crops are discussed, including sweet pepper, chili, tomatoes, cauliflower, wheat, sweet peas, sugarcane, and potatoes. The performance of the various techniques has been tested and evaluated in the field. Written by experts on micro irrigation, this valuable book is a must-have for micro irrigation professionals as well as advanced students.
Commercial development of cultured-derived food ingredients has attracted interna tional interest. As consumers have become more health conscious in recent years, the de mand for natural food ingredients and disease-preventative phytochemicals has increased tremendously. Plant Cell and Tissue Culture provides an alternative method for controlled production of these products. A wide range of food ingredients has been shown to be pro duced in culture. Much progress has been made in advancing this technology to the point that large-scale production has become possible. This book is developed from the Symposium "Plant Cell and Tissue Culture for Food Ingredient Production" which was held on April 13-17, 1997 at the American Chemical So ciety National Meeting in San Francisco, CA. In this book, international experts in acade mia, government, and industry discuss current advances in the field of plant cell and tissue culture with special emphasis on its application for food ingredient production. Topics re lated to various aspects of plant cell and tissue culture technology are discussed, including overviews of recent advances in plant metabolic pathway studies, process development for improving yields, and bioreactor design and operation for large-scale production. Economic considerations and issues related to the commercial development of culture-derived food in gredients are discussed. Also included are the safety assessment schemes and regulatory frameworks set up by regulatory agencies around the world."

The word "titanic" reminds one of the majestic ship Titanic and James Cameron's epic romance movie Titanic-in many cases the film first and the ship next. The Titanic was the world's largest passenger ship when it entered service, measuring 269 m (882 feet) in length, and the largest man-made moving object on earth. The colossal ship and the epic movie inspired the authors, Susai Rajendran (professor of chemistry) and Gurmeet Singh (a renowned academic administrator and an internationally reputed expert in the field of corrosion science and smart materials) to study why the Titanic collapsed. The main reason seems to be bimetallic corrosion, also known as galvanic corrosion. This book discusses various aspects of galvanic corrosion, namely causes, consequences, methods of control, and case studies. It also reports research on the causes of corrosion of the sunken ship, including microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) and metallurgical failure. The book is a great reference for research scholars in the field of corrosion, graduate- and postgraduate-level students, the general public, and marine engineers.

In this research work an attempt has been made to develop an empirical relationship between FSW variables and the mechanical properties (tensile strength, yield strength, percentage elongation, micro hardness and impact toughness) of friction stir welded aluminium alloy 6082-T651 joints. Central composite design matrix was used to prescribe the required number of experimental conditions. A four-factors-five-level central composite design was used to determine the optimal factors of friction stir welding process for aluminium alloy. The central composite design (CCD) with a quadratic model was employed. Four independent variables namely - tool rotational speed (N), welding speed (S), axial force (F) and pin diameter (P) was selected. The mathematical relationships were developed from the data generated. The developed mathematical relationships were useful for prediction of tensile strength, yield strength, percentage elongation, micro hardness and impact toughness in friction stir welded AA6082 aluminium alloy joints at 95% confidence level. The micrographs showing the microstructure of base material and all the welded joints are presented.
