Der Unterschied liegt im Wesen der heiden Kurorte. In Badgastein sind di, e Wirkungsfaktoren und der Wir- kungsmechanismus der beiden wichcigsten Kurmittel, der hochradioaktiven Therme und des ganz besonderen Klima- milieus, noch immer ratselhaft; daher hat sich dort die bal- neologische Forschung vor aHem der Zergliederung der na- tiirlichen Heilfaktoren zugewandt und die Arbeiten daruber nehmen seit JahrhU11'derten den groBten Raum ein. In Bad Gleichenberg dagegen bieten Heilquellen und Klima kaum mehr Ratsel; dafiir aber hat hier die praktisch- balneologische Arbeit - dem ganz anderen Charakter der Heilquellen entsprechend - vor aHem zur Entwicklung mannigfaltiger Anwendungsformen fur die Natronsauer- linge gefiihrt. Das alkalische Heilwasser entfaltet, in der Trinkkur, als Inhalation, als Spiilung usw. gebraucht, vor al- Iem bei Erkrankungen des Atmungsapparates seine fast nie versagende Wirkung.
