Zahnrader gehoeren zu den am haufigsten verwendeten Maschinen elementen - es gibt wohl nur wenige Maschinen, die keine Zahnrader enthalten. Jeder im Maschinenbau tatige Konstrukteur muss sich deshalb immer wieder mit den Fragen des Entwurfs, der Herstellung und des Betriebsverhaltens von Zahnradern befassen. Berechnung und Konstruktion von Zahnradgetrieben sind heute je doch schon fast zu einer eigenen Wissenschaft geworden; der dauernde Druck, immer billigere, ruhiger laufende, leichtere und leistungsstarkere Maschinen zu bauen, erforderte zwangslaufig auch immer wieder Verbes serungen der Zahnradgetriebe. Infolge dieser dauernden Anstrengungen und der Erfahrungen mit ausgefuhrten Konstruktionen, haben wir heute schon einen verhaltnismassig guten Einblick in den Beanspruchungs mechanismus der Zahnrader und es sind eine ganze Reihe komplizierter Verfahren fur die Zahnradherstellung entwickelt worden. Um die Ent wicklung weiter voranzutreiben, sind verschiedene grosse Firmen dazu ubergegangen, Laufverhalten und Tragfahigkeit in Dauerversuchen zu ermitteln. Zur Entwicklung neuer Getriebetypen werden besondere Ent wicklungsprogramme durchgefuhrt. - So findet man laufend neue Mittel, die Laufruhe und Tragfahigkeit zu steigern und die Herstellung zu ver billigen. Da viele Konstrukteure jedoch nicht die Zeit haben, sich uber alle Fortschritte des Getriebebaues auf dem Laufenden zu halten, kommen sie in Gefahr, mit ihren Konstruktionen - gegenuber den Spitzenleistungen ihrer Branche - ins Hinter treffen zu geraten. Es gibt zwar ein umfangreiches Schrifttum uber alle Zahnrad fragen und doch ist es in vielen Fallen schwierig, die Auskunft zu finden die man gerade benoetigt. Die fur die Praxis des Getriebebaues erforderlichen Angaben in uber sichtlicher, sofort anwendbarer Form zusammenzufassen, ist der Zweck dieses Buches.

Nach der Behandlung der "Riementriebe, Kettentriebe und Kupplungen" in der Fachtagung "Antriebselemente" 1953 wurde diese Veranstaltung im Jahre 1954 U unter den Titel "Zahnrader und Zahnradgetriebe gestellt. Bedeutung und Umfang dieses Stoffes schlossen damit von vornherein iede Hinzunahme von Themen aus anderen Arbeitsgruppen des Fachbereiches aus. In ihrem ersten Teil verzeichnete die Fachtagung 1954 VortrCige aus dem Gebiet der Zahnradfertigung, in einem zweiten Abschnitt Themen uber den Zahnradgetriebe- bau. Aus der Verpflichtung der Fachgemeinschaft, gelegentlich wirtschaftliche Fra- gen auch offentlich zu behandeln, und aus der Erfahrung, daB solche Fragen zu- nehmend das Interesse der Ingenieure finden, wurden den technischen Referaten VortrCige wirtschaftlichen Inhalts uber Gegenwartsprobleme aus der Zahnrader- und Getriebeindustrie zugeordnet. Bei der Ausgestaltung dieser Tagung wurde bewuBt angestrebt, neben deutschen Praktikern und Wissenschaftlern auch hervorragende Vertreter der Wissenschaft und der Industrie des Auslandes zu Wort kommen zu lassen. Damit ist mit dieser Veranstaltung in einem groBeren Umfange eine den nationalen Bereich sprengende Diskussion um wichtige und aktuelle Themen aus der Zahnrad-und Getriebetechnik ermoglicht worden. Die Zahnrader-und Getriebeindustrie hat mit der Tagung "Antriebselemente" 1954 erneut unter Beweis gestellt, daB sie es als eine ihrer Hauptaufgaben ansieht, den Fortschritt der T echnik zu fordern und den Ingenieuren dieienigen Erkenntnisse zu vermitteln, die sie bei ihrer taglichen praktischen Arbeit benotigen. Wie bei der Voriahrs-Veranstaltung wurde damit eine weite Ausstrahlung der gewonnenen Er- kenntnisse und Ergebnisse auf die verschiedenen Verbraucherkreise des Maschinen- baues und der deutschen Industrie bewirkt.

Die Bewerber um Kokerei-Assistentenstellen haben in uberwiegen del' Zahl auf Maschinenbau- und Huttenschulen zumal in maschinen technischer und elektrischer Beziehung eine griindliche Ausbildung er fahren; bei del' Eigenart del' chemischen V organge, die mit del' trockenen Destillation del' Kohle und Gewinnung del' lSogenannten Nebenprodukte verknupft sind, und den vielseitigen Aufgaben del' genannten Schulen ist das hinsichtlich del' Kokereichemie weniger del' Fall. Diesel' Um stand, del' in Sitzungen, Einzelbesprechungen und bei Vortragen aus diesem Gebiete wiederholt zur Sprache gekommen ist, legte miT den Gedanken nahe, das fur den Kokereiassistenten im wesentlichen Wissens werte aus dem Gebiete del' Chemie zusammenzustellen, wobei auch del' hohen Bedeutung del' Warmewirtschaft entsprechend die Warmelehre Berucksichtigung finde. Zeche und Kokerei sind in den meisten Fallen so eng miteinander verbunden, daB das Buch auch dem technischen Grubenbeamten, del' sich mit del' neuzeitlichen Verkokung del' von ihm gefOrderten Kohle beschaftigen will, als Wegweiser dienen kann.
